I bought a variety pack of flap type sanding disks that were on sale. I'd bought a single disk before and was impressed with what it did for stripping, but of course it does remove material as well. Included was one of these stripping disks.

These things are amazing. I used it to strip some paint off of my car hauler, as well as clean up a very rusty piece of 2.5 inch square tubing. (making a receiver for a winch) It's just no effort at all to get things down to nice clean metal with this. Can some of you who've used these tell me how long these things last?

My experience is similar, be careful not to catch an edge or you'll tear a chunk off the disc and it will go out of balance.

I use them on a grinder as shown above. I also use 5" dia. wheels on a 3,450 rpm bench grinder and a Black & Decker Work Wheel.

Hard to say how long they last ... but I always feel I get my monies worth.

I saw some of these at Home Depot the other day. I'll have to grab one next time I'm there. I saw Jody use them in his Welding Tips and Tricks videos and he loved them as well. He said to be careful when sanding/stripping near a sharp edge or it can catch and wreck the disc.

Those Norton Rapid Strip Discs are awesome. I used a couple of them to strip the paint off the bed of my '65 C10... Mostly they got shredded from sharp sheet metal edges.

I guess it's like a lot of things as far as hitting sharp edges at the wrong angle. Catching a wire brush or wire cup on and edge is the worst if your using a small grinder with one hand while holding the part in the other.

I have used them often with excellent results although they won't cut through 70 year old patina,,only polish it. There are larger 7" discs as well. They do last if you don't apply pressure. Lower rpm grinder would be nice as i don't think they really need 10000 rpm

I use these on a variable speed grinder, slower speeds they last a long time.

Use a slow speed angle grinder. iirc 3M recommends about 6500 rpm. If you grind overlapping metal grind with the edge and not against the edge.
