Pulled the trigger on a 3D printer and am teaching myself how to model using various software. It basically worked out how I wanted, but I can improve.

I don't know. You tell me? This is my first print it seems like it worked right. However it put supports where there really didn't need supports?

You mention "indented hole". Is it supposed to just be a recess? Not a through hole?
3d printers can do some bridging, especially a large radius hole. Each layer will have just a little bit more material cantilevered out unsupported. It looks to me that it tried to build support, but hard to say from the video.

you just need to turn off supports in your slicer. If you’re using Cura, I can help you find where to turn them off.
