18 bucks at the local consignment auction won me my first ever Hein Werner jack. It's a model K in what appears to be fully functional condition. It won't be right away but it's probably going to get a rattle can restoration. Is there a spray can that closely approximates whatever the factory color of these were?

Also is there such a thing as a replacement tag for these? This one is buggered up some.

I'll also need to figure out whatever that sticker on the handle used to be.

I used Chevrolet Engine Orange. Nice match. I no longer have the can but it was a DupliColor brand maybe #1607. My local O'Reillys had 2 different shades of Chevy Engine Orange by DupliColor. I disassembled mine painted and reassembled. It was a lot of work but turned out nice. Good LuckIMG_2888.JPGIMG_2329.JPG07

I did a full restoration on my 1.5 tom Hein Warner. This included new seals.
It is identical to the one you have. I do not like the jack. It struggles to lift my 1940 Ford at the rear axle. If you were close, I would give it to you. For now, I have hidden the HW in a corner, behind my shop compressor.
The colour is Tremclad orange.
I bought a new two stage jack at NAPA.

If it doesn't work right you probably had excessive wear somewhere that wasn't addressed by the seal kit. Done right these older jacks will do their job well for decades longer than 90% of what is being manufactured today.

Rustoleum Farm & Implement Allis Chalmers Orange Gloss Enamel Spray Paint is a very close or exact match IMO to the factory color. Home Depot and tractor supply carry the paint, may have to order from HD.

what's so special about a Heim Werner jack? do they lift higher or faster than a modern jack? my floor jacks work just fine

I am calling you on what you posted. Please explain. What you said about wear and a seal kit does not address ability to lift. The jack does not lift anything close to the stated rating. It takes too much handle effort to lift at the working end.

Another dangerous feature of this HW is the too light duty rod in the handle.
The rod goes from a knob at the top of the handle and connects to the release valve. The rod "winds" up and suddenly releases and the jack comes down very quickly.
I bought a section a bigger diameter drill rod and milled the ends to fit the OEM parts. This got rid of the sudden and uncontrollable release problem. BUT, the jack is still too weak to lift easily. I may keep the wheels and toss the jack back in the company scrap-bin where I found it.

Haha - I noticed this about the jack also. I wonder if I/we have the packing too tight on the release valve? I think a thicker rod down the length of the handle would be an improvement.

The packing/seal is not the problem. I bought a modern two stage jack at NAPA. With the NAPA jack to compare, the HW is NFG, for me.
