Picked up a free pallet from local Harbor Freight after deciding to make one into a shelf for my shop. What have you made from a free pallet?

Not quite pallet projects, but my dad worked in security for the San Diego Zoo and was an accomplished wood worker. Crates used to ship animals to the zoo from their native lands were usually made of exotic woods and my dad would bring them home, dismantle them and use them for any number of projects.

I've been searching for 3 weeks for free pallets and only found 2 that were damaged.
The problem is theres a refund price on a lot of them here so most large stores won't give them away. :(

I got a bunch of pallets from work and used them to make a compost bin. I had a couple left over that have just been sitting in the backyard, so I may have to steal your shelf idea for the shed!

That is too cool!

Many pallets are made of hardwoods as well, most commonly maple. Good stuff!

Creative use of free wood in your shop and I agree the bar looks good. I hope we see more ideas from others too.

Is that pool table slate on top of the bar?

Zebedeewesty, try a local skip hire company. You might have to slip them some beer tokens but I got a load of pallet wood from the place round the corner from me.

There's a fish packing company just down the road from me with about 300 pallets sat in their yard. All surrounded by 7ft fencing though.:(

They get £2 ($3) back for every one they return, but still wouldn't sell me one or two.:dunno:

Local ATV dealers all have 'free wood' signs. I suspect that is code for "take my crates, please". I wonder if there is enough wood in the crates to be worthwhile for anything from a project to kindling?

Nope, it is finish plywood painted with chalk board paint. This summer it gets a full epoxy coat. I'll have race tickets, beer caps, tools and the sort all embedded in it.
