Here's my new to me 20x10 garage (well sort of mine, I'm renting). Figured I'd share pics for my first post. The landlord installed some crappy shelving that I'll be pulling out in a few months, and the garage door opener wiring could stand to be straightened up. My wife wants to put a chest freezer in there and I think I can work a small workbench next to it with pegboard for my tools and maybe a smaller toolchest could slide under the workbench. I may also think about putting some better lighting in the area although I'm fine for now with my work lamp. I'd like to redo the floor and repaint the walls but as I don't own I really don't want to put that kinda money into a place that I'll probably only be at for a few years. Oh and there are some pics of the reason I insisted I have a garage...my 300ZX Twinturbo.

Thanks.

Not sure if you can see but the builder put in two concrete idiot posts in the back of the garage. I'm thinking my best option is wedge a freezer chest in the corner against the side wall. Pull down the side shelves. Run an extension along the side wall for the spigot. Put in a tool chest in front of the posts (preferably between but I've only got 25" to work with there). Put in a work bench over the tool chest. Then maybe mount some cabinetry on side wall where the shelves used to be. First things first though, I need to decide if I'm going to put in some race deck or the like.

From experience with my last garage I'd put the freezer as close to the internal door as possible, maybe go for an upright one? This way you can limit non-garage use of your garage. I had a upright freezer right next to the door so the (ex-) wife only ever opened the door, opened the freezer then got the hell out of my garage!

In your place I'd put an upright one immediately to the left of the door as you step into the garage. Your bench could then go along the remaining part of the back wall 'behind' the freezer and long the right side wall a few feet in an 'L' shape.

bazzateer- Thanks for the input. I agree but the 'idiot' posts only give me about 24" of clearance between the door and the post. I've thought about the vertical freezers as a possibility. As for non-garage use access, I'm pretty confident my wife will be respectful of the car. Actually she's been instrumental in the pulling and re-installation of transmissions. As long as it's not under the car (she get's claustrophobic) she's always down to help. Actually she's operated more heavy machinery than most of the guys I work with (granted we're all physicists, lol). But thanks for the heads-up.
