My first garage build- Need any suggestions

I have been reading all type of info from this site over the past few weeks. Great info!!!!!!!

I am in Iowa and having built a 50x30- wood framed, concrete slab and frost footings (R19 insulation in walls and R25 in ceilings) vinyl sided, 4/12 gable roof with 1' overhangs, 8 foot ceilings when finished (garage is for storing hot rods and normal garage stuff so higher ceilings not that big of deal) ,using 16" studs, OSB sheeting walls and roof, 1/2" rock walls and ceiling, tape and spray with orange peel texture. They are also sectionning off a 20x14 foot work shop that will have a 36"x24" window and service door to the exterior and another service door and 8 foot overhead door from the shop area that opens into the larger part of the garage. The main garage will have an 18 foot overhead door on the 30 foot side, service door and another 36"x24" window.

Contractor handles all permits, inspections and fee's

My price quote has come in at $36,200. Does this sound about right?

I had a Pro Built (metal building) quoted but they want $43,000 and I have to get all the permits etc needed. Their building is taller though coming in with 10' ceilings.

See if he'll put in scissor trusses so you have more height for that price.

I just built a 30X38 building myself & still trying to finish the inside. I have been planning my dream garage for 21 years, which incedentally is how long I've been married. Your price sounds about right. Some features that I like are trench drains under the cars, plenty of outlets I went every third stud, enough flourescent lights to perform surgery, Jack shaft openers to save ceiling space, treated sill plates if you plan to wash any cars inside, a heated closet for storage of any items that you don't want to freeze like paint, and I definately would raise the ceiling to at least 10 ft, mine is 12ft. Think about it you won't even be able to stand up a sheet of plywood or a 2x4 without hitting the ceiling. If you plan on working out there I think you will live to regret an 8 ft ceiling. Also, with the high ceilings you can put in some ceiling fans unless you are going to go with a/c. I also have running water & am currently deciding whether to use a hot water heater or a small point of use heater. And don't forget to run cable. I better do it right if my wife adds up the bills I may be living out there.
