Hello from Millersville in central Maryland. I recently retired (RF Engr) and have found I enjoy working on my family's fleet of cars (and now motorcycles). I'd appreciate some opinion on the detached garage I am planning. I intend to install a 2-post lift, for vehicles up to 5k lbs. Keeping a car in the garage is actually secondary, but I will keep the motorcycle in it. I am struggling with final dimensions. Thinking 18' W x 24' D garage with 10' H walls and scissor trusses to allow max vertical clearance for the lift. Getting advice to go 24 x 24 floor, saying I'd regret not going with a larger plan later. I don't like the thought of doing larger because of the tendency to have stuff just spread out to fill the space just because it's there, and I have a decent size shed and plenty of room in the house for storage.
So I'd welcome thoughts about the dimensions and also on particular 2-post lifts ( I have looked at some posts here on the subject). Thinking asymmetric type. Thank you. PS I demonstrated my commitment to working on the cars and justification for a garage by doing a timing belt kit installation on the 06 Toyota Sienna (V6 DOHC) back in February - outside on the driveway! its time to get serious!

What easements exist (Look at your mortgage survey).

Then, what tools and equipment will you have? What functions and processes will you accomplish in this space.

What is your budget?

Etc.
