I recently purchased a large starter selection of snap on tools alittle bit of everything to get started i suppose. Well tonight i was working on my truck and really got to feel the amazing feeling of having every tool you need to complete a job to perfection without saying "man i wish i had X"

but among this selection of sockets and ratchets i have a set of SPBS704 and a set of PBS704. the task i was completing this evening involved alot of prying and to be honest i was expecting to have to make a phone call to warranty a pry bar but these things took it like a champ. Only thing that happened was they scratched some of there paint off. I was giving the longer of the 2 sets absolute hell and they never flinched. Im thrilled with my snap on purchase.

Very nice set up, you will love the tech angle wrenches!!! But there should be a warning label on the Snap-on truck like they do on cigarettes, well not the cancer part just the addictive part.

I know exactly how you feel. It's one of the best feelings when you can just go to your box and pull out the right tool to make the job easier.

Congrats!

The socket trays are the newer Kobalts I believe.

I see you have a good assortment of SO ratchets. Are some of the sockets SO as well or are they all Craftsman? I only ask because I also have SO ratchets and Craftsman sockets. I think they make a good match.

there all craftsman, i purchased the 299pc craftsman socket set. im scared to death of doubles and piecing sets together. i also just purchased the 50pc torx/hex/phillips/flat/etorx set from craftsman. will need to buy the security bit set next. SO makes great sockets but im just not going to pay $200 for 10 sockets right now.

Nice tools. Is the roll cab in your house?:)

yup.

Nice collection ..

What starter set did you buy? Looks a lorra tools for the basic set.

I pieced it together. not exactly a starter set.

Nice setup! As time goes on; a few Snap-On quality sockets will really start to stand out.. all brands will break eventually but the their TORX and HEX sockets really are superior. Try to find these used and get them cheap; they are great because while not indestructible will stand up to allot of abuse compared to the Craftsman. You are on the right track with Snap-On to start with; TARGETED specific tool purchases on their particular tools that make a huge difference... ratchets, hammers, boxes etc. you are on a roll and they really are great to use aren't they?

And to "re-quote" my sig:

Being able to reach into your rollaway and finding the right tool for any given situation/repair; is the ultimate power trip! :)

Cheers and enjoy your new tools! :)

I really didn't see a need to blow ever penny I had trying to buy a few sockets and wrenchs. So I went with craftsman for those. Most of the rest is snap on. Snap on wrenchs and all will come with time

I enjoy turning wrenchs in the driveway. Ill pick up a side job here and there. But im a auto tech student about 2/3 the way through so I decided it was time to get serious about my tools. Ill take pics tonight of everything if y'all are interested.

They sure do. The only issue I've noticed is the inner walls aren't well chromed on some.

Very nice. I just got a techangle, 1/2, as well. Might get a 3/8s, haven't decided yet, I got a few nice spring, and SB ones.

I usually get something everyweek of the truck. Feel like I should so he'll keep meeting me along his route. I'm a non-pro, but love nice tools. I agree it is a nice feeling having everything you need. I love the dual 80s, have quite a few.

What brand are the long torx/hex sockets on top of your box? Nice tools so far. Don't get carried away.

Doubles scare me...so that's not happening. Ill be actively persuing a job as an auto tech in about 2 months so im trying to get most of what I need.

I haven't bought anything I didn't need so far. I've bought a few basic tools over my 4 years of tinkering with cars but im starting fresh with this box.

I realised the other day I have no pliers...that's likely next

As in buy too much.

Is that possible?

Thats smart thinking right there .. Some things are ok to double up on like combo wrenches (Sometimes you need two)

Plier sets mmm .. Again buy whats required .. Plier, Cutter & Needel Nose. Then some Vise grips, Slip joint adjustables etc Then move onto electrical and cir-clip .. Everything after that is just maybe / might / probably need it!

For example: I never had or seen the need for long / short handle bent needle nose pliers but they sure look good hanging there in the VAN ..

The one thing I notice about snapon sockets that does make them better than any other is the fact that the bolt or nut will not slide all the way up into the socket, which makes a HUGE difference when you are trying to start a bolt in a wierd spot and need to push on the fastener with the socket while turning it. I bought brand new Snapon SAE 3/8 drive sockets and decided to trade them back in for other tools since i already had all the sizes in mixed Crafstman/Mac/Protos, but soon thereafter I noticed I should have kept them.
I do Have the metrics though

Here are 2 Wright sockets, one with deep and one with shallow broaching. Both deep well sockets. The shllow broached one feels like it weighs about two pounds :)
