And yes, Stage20 is correct. The "V" many people include in the name is merely an online attempt to replicate the inverted triangle the company used in place of the "O" in the name PLOMB during the later years.
The company was established in Los Angeles, CA by a man named Alphonse Plomb in 1912.
Not to be confused with the Fayette R. Plumb Co. from Pennsylvania that manufactures hammers and hatchets and the like.... And also famously won a trademark infringement suit against Plomb Tool Co. in '47. Prompting Plomb's name change to Proto.
