Hello everyone. I've been enjoying The Garage Journal as an observer/lurker for about a year. I'm finally getting around to making my first post, and this introduction thread fits the bill nicely for doing that.
I listed the following hobby interests in the "About Me" section, and they pretty much sum up where my head's at in this regard; Woodworking, Metalworking, Restoration, Repurposing, Product Design, & Making Things From Scratch!
While my inclinations lean toward things of a mechanical nature, my lovely wife is artistically inclined. We work on some of the above projects together, especially those in the areas of restoration and repurposing.
Our biggest challenge in doing all of the above comes from the limitations imposed by our modest 1600 square foot ranch home on a tiny lot. We have an outdoor shed for storage of seasonal items, but the house has no garage or basement, and the ground is otherwise landlocked because it's lake property.
Our workspace consists of a single vehicle carport with an attached 12 x 13 foot bonus room. The latter's interior space was recently freed up entirely for this purpose, and I'll soon be taking steps to transform and optimize it for use as such.
Many things will need to be streamlined and made portable for ease of transfer between the bonus room and the carport when I need to use them. As for storage and appropriate work that can take place inside, I'll have to make really efficient use of the bonus room's limited 8 foot ceiling height.
I hope to start a thread soon documenting the progress of utilizing the workspace, including examples of the work being produced in it.
In closing, I'll say that my favorite threads here tend to be the ones in which people are creating multi-purpose work areas, making efficient use of small spaces, or displaying the work they've been doing in them. That being said, there is a lot of stuff to enjoy here, even if some of it falls a bit outside of my interest zone. Keep up the good work folks!
