The other day I picked up a hefty carpenter/framing square that needed some TLC. Brought it home and, after some WD-40 and 800 grit paper and 0000 wool, it cleaned up real nice and revealed its maker's mark and overall character.
Only then did I discover I was the new owner of a 100+ year old Sargent & Co. polished steel 16" x 24" #14 framing square. Based on the stamped trademark/logo, it dates between 1887 and 1901.
Very happy with it and look forward to many years of continued service!
