New here, so I thought I would throw down a small build thread!

7 years ago my wife and I moved into our first home. As standard duty as a guy, I was disappointed about the lack of a shop, as if the 40x30x12 attached three car wasn't enough...It took a little real world slap from my ol' man to tell me that I cant have everything all at once! It took him 30 years of homeownership to get his first shop, and we built a lot of cool **** outta that two car garage!:3gears:

Fast forward to present day, we had finally saved enough to build a shop! So I pulled the trigger this summer. It is truly amazing how quick you go from the base price to insulation, radiant floor heat, eaves, and windows!! Good thing I live by the "budget for X, save for double!"

The outfit that is building it appears to be doing a very neat and tidy job. The fit and finish is more than I expected. They had to do some grade work before hand, and I just asked them to leave the dirt piled up and I will spread it out where I want it. They have neatly stacked the scrap wood for me to pick and choose what I need and they will haul it off when they are completed. I realize this may be standard practice, but anymore, nothing really surprises me. They spend a few minutes at the end of the day picking up trash, nails, and scraps before they leave.

Some facts...
36x48x14
16x12 garage door
1 man door
Basic Vapor/Insulation over the girts, under the steel... for now
Radiant floor heat
5in concrete floor

Some pictures...

Very cool. I have been without a shop for 4 years now and it's killing me! I have to work at friend's places and you know what that's like. Don't know where any of the tools are etc....

Good luck with the new shop!

Looks to be same as mine below with a few changes. Way to small way to fast. Good luck with your new building. I hope the red rolls are insulated vapor barrier, one of best things I did.

I know I know, but its what the budget allowed... and I'm not congress... lol

I have been reading thread after thread and I plan to use the space as wisely as possible. Lots of good ideas and reading on this site!

Yes, those rolls are that insulated vapor barrier.

Going to be nice. Love the cable from the house to the air compressor and then, I presume, an air hose to the work place. Can't tell you how many times that has been my solution to power on the project. Always come away saying I need to put a gas powered compressor but that fades away until the next time. What is that overhead wire in the picture?

Looks like you have a decent chunk of land too.

Its not bad for our first house that's for sure! Its about an acre and a half. We are planning for a bunch of strategically placed trees around the building and backyard to increase the privacy a little, Those houses you see in the picture are the only ones that can see us closely.

A little more progress, the guys found a couple of the metal sheets had some damage... kind of a bummer, hope there was enough metal from the same lot during manufacturing around here!!

Started to dig my holes for electrical conduit and some drain lines. Ground is so hard out here, but thankfully not rocky.
