After the last few years of working out of a 1 car garage/shop, or working out of my dads shop my wife and i saved enough funds to buy our own place. When we had the house built we had them build the shop right along with it. So dimensions are 30x40 with 10ft ceilings, one 16x8 door up front, two windows and a man door. I hate reading a build thread and not seeing "whats next" so i waited awhile and have most of what you see now done.

Here it is getting framed out

And here it is complete. I poured another 30x40 pad out in front of the shop, after working in the gravel for the last 3 years there was no way i would have anything less than a nice flat surface out front!

Re: MY first shop

The shop came only with the bare minimum, two outlets and two single bulb lights. I had a 200 amp service put out there, so there should be no problem with the welder and plaz. I wired in a total of 22 110 outlets inside and then another out front of the building so i didnt have to run an extension cord outside if i needed one. I Also ran 3 220 outlets, hopefully i never need an extension cord for the welder or plaz!

A little wiring

The other thing i cant stand is working in the dark!!! So i bought 16 8ft t8 housing. I pre-hung all the lights so that i could locate them where i wanted before I insulated and hung the dry wall.

.

Next was the insulation. . . . . . . . :lol_hitti If there is one thing i hate its insulation, no matter how well i cover myself up i always itch and cough for hours afterwards, my dads been a carpenter for 30+ yrs and he can roll around in it and it dosnt bother him.:wtf:

I went with r-19 in the walls and r-30 for the lid

Hating life. . . lol

When i was done with the insulation it was time for drywall, so all my lights came down and it was time to work by spot light.

I loved the pics of the construction of your garage and with the progression of every phase of the construction the pics justifying it would make it to be a very good thing to remember. The effort you put in building such a place will indeed make you feel proud about owning it.

Very nice!

>If there is one thing i hate its insulation
Until it's hot or cold outside and you're in there working all nice and comfy!

My first - never forget how lucky we are to even have places to tinker.

You're helping with my light plan and the doggie door is a great idea. If you get a chance to post a pic of the inside with the drywall and the lights all lit up, I'd appreciate it. Looks like rows on 6' centers.

Re: MY first shop

Thanks for the kind words guys, the thing that makes me most proud of this place is that everything is paid for, Nothing put on credit, we saved for a long time to be able to do this, and i can say i own every bit of it.
Falcon- i couldn't find any good pictures of the old "shop" but here's one that kinda shows the size

Re: MY first shop

yesterday was super productive, we started tape and mud last saturday and finished yesterday morning. Then the stove company called and said they had time to install my new pellet stove if i was available.

Started with this, we only ended up only using 2 boxes if tapeing and 4 boxes of topping mud.

And the boss ready to go in for the night.
I went and got all my paint and primer i just need to pick up a sprayer, and i should have the paint knocked out today.

Re: MY first shop

FYI-
The batts you put in the attic were installed incorrectly. They have to be in between the trusses and the kraft paper against the drywall. If there are air gaps between the drywall and the insulation- it's not insulating anything.

Re: MY first shop

I think the bats were just stacked that way so they would stay up there. If you look in the picture where they are starting the drywall you can see they are installed correctly once the drywall is up. I'd bet the hung the dry wall and straitened things out as they went along.

Well i got the shop all painted today!I got a chance to work with an old timer buddy of my dads and he taught me a cool trick to masking things off. Instead of using tape and paper, he used tin foil. I was amazed at how well it worked, i used it to mask of the bare wires (not hot of course) for the lights i had pre-hung, as well as the garage door opener and door rails. The only thing we actually used tape and paper on was on the windows and man door.

all painted

Airbornebob- The crawler is my ultra4 car, standard buggy, 60's, atlas, etc, etc. I only got to do one race this year and then life got in the way.
aa397886.jpg

Nisomans13- The stove is a breckwell Big E pellet stove, it vents. It just vents straight out the back, which I guess is pretty standard for these stoves. Here's a picture of the vent and the air inlet on the inside, as well as the control unit.
46ac9193.jpg

Brunow- The stove works great, i had it set on "2" last night and when i went out this morning it was 65.

K'ledgebuilder- The bats did get laid in how "they should be". Like i said up above, insulation really bothers me so i just threw them up there and then tucked them as the drywall went up.

Tomorrow i should be able to get all my lights up and wired back in. And then i am going to take a couple days off. I called Epoxy-coat earlier this week and ordered 3 3gal kits in grey and it should be here Monday.
I'm really not looking forward to doing it but its the best time to do it. Once i move all my **** in, i'll never want to move it out to epoxy.

 Guys

No i dont , best website in the world for 4x4's but full of assmonkeys who know it all. Not worth the hassle. I've got pictures from the first bend to the last bolt. Me and a couple buddies built the chassis and then i finished it out.
