I would be tempted to slip the handle into an old leather glove;;
gently clamp it in a vise;
spend about three minutes on cleanup with a utility knife and a small buffer or wire brush;
another two minutes dressing the tip with a file;
put it in the screwdriver drawer;

and

send yourself a bill for $5 @ $1/minute. :lol:

S-O screwdrivers aren't "gateway drugs" like the ratchets. Well, maybe the ratcheting screwdriver is...

Stick it up on Craig's List with the tags "Vintage" & "Rare." Call it limited edition black first release hard handle with a well loved patina that reflects the history of an important tool from the premier USA tool manufacturer for the last century. Point out that this particular size is extremely hard to find and the person who buys it from you is lucky. Ask $125.00 for it and state the low price is only because you're feeling generous today. Tell them you can't prove it but you were told Jesus built a table with it. And for pete's sake don't leave out the fact that that the shank is cast in gold. It will sell before the day's out, I promise.

I have the Snap On ratcheting screwdriver, it's nothing special. I have a $5 ratcheting screwdriver from Husky I use more often because it's got a handle similar to my Craftsman Pro screwdriver. The ratcheting mechanisms feel similar.

Pull the tip out and make a file handle. Thats what i did when i had about 12 screwdivers that size that i never used.

That's a good idea, I think I'll give that a go. I have a bunch of stubby screwdrivers and not enough file handles. Thanks for the tip.:beer:

You should listen to him, you don't need one until you really need it.

Very true but I do have other stubbies

I hate gateway drugs

Can't believe I'm the first to ask, so what else was in that box O' rust?

There wa a bunch of rusty taps. I took out some stuff and they have been soaking in pb blaster. I got the tools when I picked up some cheap boxes to clean up and paint. I'll get some pics of the rusty stuff

Power craft screwdriver sockets.
Power craft Allen sockets
Craftsman screwdriver
Punches chisels
Dividers
Keyhole saw.

The rest of the rusty tools were junk. The only prize was the snap on screwdriver

Junk? The soldering iron ain't junk, reuse the copper for a heat sink or hammer. :thumbup:

The rest of the "junk" got thrown away. The decent stuff I kept is in the picture

I wish I had a sand blaster to clean everything up
