Like many of you my addiction to tools and garage equipment has been fueled by the many great people and ideas I have seen on this site... Only a year ago I thought a vise was just a boring old thing that you clamp stuff in. Little did I know what cool tools vises really are or how much fun it can be to save one from the scrap heap.

This one showed up on my local CL last week, it was rusty and very dirty but didn't show signs of damage or repairs so I couldn't resist. It's a big ******* too! 5" heavy-duty and it's heavier than my 6.5" Wilton bullet.

I'm sorry I didn't take a "before" photo because honestly I didn't plan to do anything with it, however it was a rough week at work so the vise (or "vice" as the English apparently call it), became my evening therapy. I disassembled, cleaned, bead-blasted, painted, and treated all bare metal with rust inhibitor. It works like new and I'm very pleased with the final results.

Thanks for looking. -Paul

You did a great job on the resto. Is that the original(ish) color? I'm assuming it's a swivel base, but it seems like it would be more of a PITA to get it to swivel considering the location of the nut compared to most that are mounted on top??

Looks like you have some nice cars in your garage as well.

Thanks! Original color was a boring gray, the lettering appeared to have been yellow though from what I could tell, I opted for GM Blue because it looked good to me and came in chemical-resistant high-heat paint. Not my personal garage but it's where I make my living.

That looks great!
I picked up my first record vise a few weeks ago. I was going to paint it blue with white letters but I think maybe now I will do yellow after seeing yours!
