My most awsome tool deal ever :)

This is what I picked up yesterday. It is a 45 piece set of Proto tools. Here in the Netherlands Proto is pretty hard to find and I have never seen a set for sale. The good thing about the tools is that most are only used once or twice and some are even brand new! There is only one wrench that has seen hard use (but it's still good to use). The other good thing is how big the tools are, the biggest socket is 2 3/16 and the biggest wrench is 1 5/8. This wrench is about two feet long! If my research is correct, the biggest wrench on it's own costs already about $120. The total of tools are:
11 piece wrench set ( biggest is 1 5/8 )
11 piece 3/4 socket set ( biggest is 2 3/16 )
3/4 ratchet
1/2 ratchet (big dawg)
8 piece 1/2 socket set
3/4 20'' breaker bar
1/2 18'' breaker bar
1/2 speeder wrench
3/8 speeder wrench
3/4 8'' extension
1/2 10'' extension
4 piece 3/8 swivel/universal socket set
Two adapters
1/2 universal joint

All tools are from the Proffesional line and made in the USA (I think most tools are made from about 1984 to the late 90's). The sizes are al SAE.

I paid 100 euros (about $135). What would you have paid for this set?

At the third picture I put the 1/2 ratchet on top for size comparison.

Looks like some nice stuff. Out of curiosity, what are the biggest brands over there? What are you going to use them for? Do large SAE fasteners come up much over there?

What would you have paid for this set? If you want to know what I paid you gotta ask me ;)

So, what did ya' pay?

That is a nice set of tools, easily worth 50 Euros or more.

The biggest brands here are Hazet, Gedore and Stahlwille I think, but we also have Snap-On :)

I paid 100 euros (about $135) I don't know what you would pay for this in the US, but here in the Netherlands it's an awsome deal I think :)

Hi Hako86 here; Well I just happened to bump into my best friend pete Perrier from around the block in Arnhem and he told me about a nice little old lady from the next town over in Eindhoven; seems her husband Peter died and he had a ton of tools for sale.

So pete and I took a road trip and paid a visit to Bertha Sleprock from Eindhoven and low and behold Bertha only wanted $10 Euro for the whole package so I gave her the money.

Hey GJ How did I do?:dunno:

Wait for it, Wait for it....

^lick your wounds and wait for the next great deal. You lost your "You ****" privileges on this one in spite of that being an awesome deal. At the risk of getting in trouble, I will say: U Hoover!

HAKO86, I think you got a very good deal, providing that you can use these SAE sizes in Europe. What kind of vehicles and/or machinery will you use them on?

@toolmaniac: I mostly work on garden tractors, lawn mowers and antique outboard motors. Yes, I know, I won't use those big sizes on those machines haha :D I just keep them for later I guess :)

Awesome buy. Do you know the story behind the tools? How they ended up in Holland?

And play it cool next time. ;)

I don't know the whole story behind it yet, but because I like to know it myself I will ask the people I bought it from. I let you know ;)

Re: My most awsome tool deal ever :)

What are the US prices for sets like this? And in the US, is there a big difference in value between Proto and Stanley Proto? Just curious how the prices are a couple of thousand miles away from my home :)

Wow...the title of this thread stuck out like a sore thumb. Although relatively new here at 71 postings and from another country, we could let it slide, MAYBE!!!! It all depends on what majority rules. If TEKEN was around, we'd have to have an official TEKEN Poll to see whether there should be redemption or not.

As far as future buys....members will decide on whether the said purchases deserve a "YOU ****" or not.

Hako86...from this point forward, absolutely "NO SELF *****".

No, I already understood about the 'self suckage' haha :D! I'm relatively new, but the self suckage was more meant as a joke, not a serious self ****... I wanted to change the title of my post, but I didn't know how, so I left it the way it was. The title wasn't meant to get a lot of 'you ****' reactions on... But thanks for your reply :)

By my calculations that's easily over $1,000 worth of tools retail. Just look on Ebay at some of the new Proto for sale.
The resale market for Proto is not so high. Maybe half of that at best. Many people seem to prefer truck brands but I like Proto. They are more in a sense industrial use tools than catering to automotive these days.
Stanley branded tools are junk made in China/Taiwan. Stanley is the owner of Proto however.
