My floor is a lake!

I have been parking my car outside all week trying to dry out my garage. The floor is so soaked that all the moisture is making EVERYTHING wet. I have been vacuuming the water out and have some of these damp-rid things in there to help. I ordered a floor mat though and that should be here within a week. That should make all the difference in the world....I hope. The water is coming from all of the snow on my car melting. I tried to dry the car off and clean the snow off good this weekend and pulled it into the garage. One the heater warmed up enough all of the snow hiden in the bumpers and other places underneith started to fall and made mess all over again.

I will do a review of the mat as soon as I get it and test it out.

I'm experiencing the same thing.....at least in the "everyday" bay. All that salt / sludge mix eventually drops onto the garage floor, creating a concrete-corrosive brine lake
I still store the cars inside, but sweep the floor after pulling them out to try and keep ahead of the game. The current freeze-thaw cycle we're having sure isn't helping, and I'm curious to see if the addition of your mat will make it better, or more difficult to keep the garage clean so please DO post your results.

Floor drains are a nono in Michigan. I think you can add one IF you build an oil interceptor but that gets pricey. The best thing to do is have someone do it while the inspector is not around.

I wouldn't do it with an inspector around, but once there gone--go for it. Unless your on a private septic system I wouldn't worry about it. There is more oil, gas and other car fluids flowing to our lakes then will ever go down that drain.

Got the mat today at lunch! WOO WOO! Goign to dry the garage out AGAIN tonight and get it installed. My new digital camera was supposed to some today but I was not home to sign for it so hopefully that comes tomorrow and I will get pics of my mat and tiny garage.

Yes, the mat will contain the water. I will get it out with a wet/dry vacuum.

So far the mat is great. I thought it was a bit pricey for some 20 mil plastic and some plastic clips to go around the edge but now I think it was well worth it. Easier to clean up that my old uneven floor was and a heck of a lot easier than replacing a bunch of things that got damaged do to water, like my walls would have.

Yeah, but without the mat I have to vacuum the entire garage all the time which is even worse. LOL And the water runs right to the walls so it gets under my floor cabinets and everything. Just got really really messy without the mat.

I have a drain in my cave its great to have . When my buddy built his garage he had the concrete guy put a skim kote (1/8) over the drain after inspection they opened it up!

Yep, that's what we did for a future toilet & sink drain, when we poured concrete for our new home shop.

I would seriously consider installing Racedeck Freeflow flooring if I were you. I've had it down in the garage under the daily driven cars for several years and I'm still very pleased. Take a look at the threads in the flooring section for more information.
