I was on a job installing some heaters and the owner wanted this compressor removed due to insurance reasons. He said I could have it if I removed it.
The bad part is it was installed about 10 feet up on some steel beams.

The good part is its a Curtis C96 that is in really good, shape just dirty.
So I spent about 3 hours disassembling it and lowering it down.

I was amazed when I drained the tanks there was maybe 3 gallons total of crystal clear water, even though these tanks haven't been filled with air in many years, absolutely no rust at all.
Anyway, here it is home I still have to get the second tank because the legs are welded to the steel beam and I didn't have any blades to cut with.
Does anyone know the spec's for a C96 pump?
It has a 5hp 3 phase motor that I need to swap to single phase so it won't be running for awhile.

That is a nice looking quality old air compressor! Old air tanks always make me leery though. I would have it tested by somplace that could either get some readings for how thick the tank is with an ultrasonic tester. And/or fill it ENTIRELY full of water and then pressure test to 50% more than its rated working pressure.

I'll pull the fitting and look inside with my borescope but I'm guessing it's going to look perfect.
This is what the Curtis will be replacing, a 1947 Westinghouse 2 stage.
It's a great unit but just can't keep up with some of my air tools.

I looked at the FSCurtis website and this pump is listed but it doesn't show the spec's for it.
Anyone know where I could find them?

Found a motor for it and now it's starting to all come together.
I'm a little unsure of the unloader's, seems that I have what's called "air pressure unloader's" or "suction unloader's"
I don't plan on running the compressor continuous which is what I think these are for but I'm not sure how the head unloads after it shuts down, any idea's?

Here it is finished.
This thing is awesome takes less than 6 minutes from 0 to 150 psi and it's quiet, could easily converse while standing next to it.
I had to replace the piston rings. Second stage leaked bad due to (I think) the lack of a check valve so I also installed a in-tank check valve.

Thanks.
I spent 150.00 on the new(used) 5hp motor.
About 30.00 at home depot for some fittings and the 1" shut off valve.
The 3/4" check valve was online for 18.00 shipped.
The piston ring kit was 65.00 shipped, cylinder honing done myself.
I qt of oil 4.00.
I stole the press. switch from my old compressor (because it was nearly new)
Oh and 6.00 at the car wash before I brought it home.
So it looks like almost 300.00 total.
I guess it's not a "freebie" anymore but I think I can get a good portion of that back selling my old one.
