My FS thread was closed?

My For Sale thread was closed and the ONLY reason I can find that it would be shut down is thay I lowered the price in less than 72 hour periods? Does lowering the price count as "bumping" it?


Also. I feel like moderators/editors need to send a pm to the original poster to be notified of why they were closed.

I guess it would. May have to wait for the Mod that closed it to answer that.

You can lower the price by simply editing the original post, but in your case you bumped your thread in a 36 hour period to reduce the price.

Btw not a admin, just simply looked at your locked thread.

You appear to have the habit of adding more information about your item with new posts in addition to the price drop thread. Every time you add information or lower the price, you are effectively bumping it.

I'd prefer to leave it open as others can read and learn from it also. It may just keep other members from doing the same thing and inquiring about it.

Looks like posts #2 & 3 were the real problem then post #5, lowering the price. Adding content as stated by Hiball should be done using the edit feature and not adding a new post, which bumps the ad back to the top.

With all due respect, it will serve as an effective example only if there is an explanation of why it was closed. Otherwise it doesn't really teach anything.

A quick note like "No bumping" from the mod closing it would be all it would take. And notes would cut down on the endless "Why was my thread closed?" posts....

Not everyone (in fact I'd venture most people) don't read the rules sticky (or if they do, they don't remember everything) so they won't know the rule you quoted. However, if the mod closing a thread quoted (or linked to) the violated rule in the closed thread itself it would not be mysterious to the poster why a thread get locked. The OP did not know he was bumping and so didn't know he was in violation. If NUTTSGT or whoever closed the thread had quoted the rule in the thread, the OP would not have had to come here and ask.

The point is to say why the thread was closed in the closed thread so that the poster and others can learn why.

For the record, I didn't delete the thread in question. Those threads get deleted and not closed because closing will still allows them to be viewed. That makes closing them pointless.

Thanks for the reply, Eric. I may be using the wrong terminology -- I'm interpreting "open" as "visible to all and open for new posts", "closed" as "visible but locked for new posts", and "deleted" as "not visible". Sorry for any confusion.

You're right -- no one will look at this thread to find out why some other thread was closed. The violation needs to be pointed out in the place it occurred if people are to learn from it. Only from feedback will people learn.

Of course that's moot with a deleted thread -- no one will see it. In that case PM is the only option if the violator is to know what the transgression was....
