Yes, A great view. Even better that out the back of the house for now. Until I rip out the damn trees behind the house that block it's view:wtf:

Yes, a lot of backfill. I used all of the dirt that was removed for the footings, plus whatever I could scrounge up around the property. I estimate roughly 15 yards.

On top of that is 22 yards of gravel (roughly 8-10 inches deep throughout).

Good luck Friday. Hope it goes great.
I'm pouring Saturday.

Thanks! Good luck to you!

Im being lazy with mine.... Im subbing this one out. The only part of this build that Ill pay somebody to do something. Its simply too big of a slab for me to handle at the moment. That, and I want it smooth.... something I have limited experience in. Swept finish yes.... smooth, no.

Actually, the surface is 100% dry to the touch in that photo. My concrete crew sprayed a curing sealer on it after the final finish trowel. Having the vapor barrier under it, it was recommended to reduce the chance of surface checks. The curing sealer locks the moisture in to slow the cure. No water is needed to keep it wet. They did it free of charge. :)

God thing too, because the wife and I took off out of town for the weekend friday afternoon. With this sealer, we didnt have to babysit the slab at all.

2 days later and the concrete is just starting to turn color to that lovely grey. So it is curing quite slow

Depending upon how this sealer reacts to chemicals, I might grind it down later for a polished surface.

Kenney,
I THOUGHT some of your pics look familiar!:bounce:

The way I figger it, you've got a nice view of the Deere dealership, Chinese Village (eggrolls!) and about a 2 beer stumble to the Plant!

I lived in Moscow from '88 until '97. Attended the UofI for a couple of years and then lived up on Paradise Ridge. I probably could have seen your house thru a telescope.

I'm down here in Lewiston and am still finishing the little shack I built next to my house. I dealt with Latah P&Z for a couple of years and remember it well. Glad there's no politics in Moscow!:lol_hitti

I'll be keeping an eye on your build page. should look great once it's done!

Hey there!

Yes, Im right where you think I am. Im on Paradise drive, just 2 blocks from campus. :)

I got a bit more done today. Just need to update the site. I started ripping the eave off of the house. Making good use of the demo bar and the recip. saw. Unfortunately.... this will be the only demo part of the job. I LOVE demo  :rocker:

Got the demo finished up, and delivered my own materials from work

And wrapped the open eave just in time for the rain to hit

Now it's really starting to look like something!

With the roof pitch matching the house it should blend in well and appear original. You may want to raise your chimney so it's higher than the roof of the garage being that close to it. I know where I am here they require you to do it if you're within so many feet of a higher roof line.

Do you get snow and a bad winter where you are? You're not too far off from getting it sealed up if you do get a winter then you can concentrate on the interior.

Yes, I have to raise the chimney stack a bit. Code calls for 3' above the nearest peak. So it will have to be raised 5 feet or so.

And yes, we get heavy snowfall up here. Another month or so and we will be into winter full swing. Ill have this thing sheeted and roofed in another week or so, and take a break. Then I will toss the doors in, and concentrate of electrical inside.:pimpflash

Rollin' rollin'

Got the soffits installed, and everything caulked.

Then we went on to paint...!

We sprayed over 25 gallons of finish paint last weekend. Got the entire garage painted, as well as the ENTIRE HOUSE.

ALl I can say is.... thank god for paint sprayers :bounce:

We sprayed the entire thing in less than 2 hrs. We still have all of the cut-in work to do by hand.... as we opted to avoid all of the masking.

And next weekend the entire thing will get a second coat.

Awesome. I love paint sprayers, too. What do you have planned for the inside?

Nope, no soffit vents needed. Ive got plenty of cross-venting with the 4 gable end vents.

What do you have planned for the inside?

Completely insulated and finished. Sheetrock ceiling and West wall for fire, and the rest sheeted in OSB. Primed, textured, and painted.

Yo gotta love the airless paint sprayers. Boy do they save time over the old pressure-pot type sprayers or a brush/roller.

You might have already answered this(?) but how are you going to access the attic area? Pull down stairs or?

Looks like your well on your way to being done.

On the backside of your garage where the block is exposed, are you planning on extending the siding down to cover it?

Im still unsure as to how I will access the attic. Possibly a custom pull down staircase, I dunno right now. I do know that it will have a trolly hoist. So i can store large, but light things up there, things that I dont need all the time.

As for the siding, no. That elevation matches the elevation of the house, and the rest of the garage. No reason to drop it.

And eventually, I will fabricate a steel framed firewood rack with a shed roof on it. It will bolt to that block wall. YOu can never have too much room for fire wood when you live in Idaho!:lol_hitti

Havnt got too much done lately. Too busy... and getting too cold.

But I did get the garage door installed.

That will at least help the COLD part of the problem :wtf:

Yeah, we are pretty far north. We get real winters up here.
Today was actually our first snow. Snowed off an on today, accumulated about 3 inches, and are supposed to get another 4-6 overnight. But the next few days are going to be warmer.... so it will all melt off.

What meter are you talking about? The one INSIDE the garage?
As shown in this photo?

Thats the old/existing service entrance.

When everything is said and done, that will serve as a pull-in-box, between the new service entrance and the house load center.

IDASHO - any updates, I looked at your site and was just wondering if you were like me and once the garage was enclosed the progress crawls along, haha.

Best of luck finishing and it still looks great!
