Been a long time coming...14'x24', slab floor, 2x8 ceiling joists and 5/8" OSB for upstairs storage, 2x6 rafters set to 12/12 pitch.

Pictures so far...

Lots of fill, we are on a steep grade on a city lot:

Decided to do the driveway while we were there:

Been a real fun family experience for everyone. Kids are learning how to build something and I get free labor!

More pictures to come!

Looks good. Always nice to let the readers know which state and area you are from as way of project intro. Good luck on the build.

Nice build!
Welcome to GJ! Please put your location in your profile.
You are going to love that roof pitch where you are. I always choose 12/12 when I can. What kind of roofing?

Location provides for informed answers to questions like snow load or wind or humidity etc.

Where I'm at, here are the weather vitals for seven months of the year:

For the other five months we get this:

And for about one of the months:

Oh great Hope you heat that shop. Looks like you're on the way to a nice place.
Got a Vermont Castings stove I'm going to put in, in-laws have one from a previous home and it's sitting in their garage waiting for me to pick it up. Think it needs some new glass, but no biggie.

Some updates...Winter Storm Argos is visiting Vermont this morning. We worked the past five days to get the roof covered and start the outside sheathing. We threw the windows and doors in temporarily to see what they will look like. I m really happy with the way this is coming out!

Sun is going down!

Updates: Clopay 9x7 insulated door installed.

Know someone with a surplus of 2-1/2" Firestone ISO R15 insulation...wicked deal! This will keep things warm this winter!

There is enough to do the ceiling and attic space,l as well.

Are you going to be able to get electric to the building before the weather gets worse?

Nice building. What are your Plans for the interior And anticipated projects?

I'm not sure I'll get power in this winter, but there is still a chance. If not, no biggie, I'll just putter on the interior during the days once I get the wood stove installed.

The upstairs will be primarily storage. The space under the windows will be benches for my lathe, mill and other metalworking equipment. I will also have a small workbench for building patterns for casting.

The right side wall will be tool storage: ladders, mower, rakes, shovels, etc.

I will need a spot to store my table saw, router table etc. but other than that I will probably only ever pull a car in here when I have to work on it myself. Otherwise, it's my cave!

Edit: spelling

Also, I'll probably put up drywall, install some LED lighting, and put some level of security surveillance in the shop and house once everything is finished. I expect there will be my computer and a TV out there hanging somewhere soon thereafter.

The floor will get a coat of epoxy as well. I work in a factory and can't stand the look and feel of untreated floors.

Update...spring is here!

I wasn't able to get the wood stove in before winter, so interior work was limited to +40F days, which were far and few between.

I was able to finish insulating the downstairs which made things at least bearable with a small space heater.

That allowed me to complete my stairs into the attic space.

First set of stairs I've ever built. I couldn't bring myself to settle for a drop down ladder what with all of the awesome dry space in the attic. I had to put in a double landing with corner steps to make it work. I call this my "Frankenstairs".

Overall, I'm happy with he results and will drywall around the upper landing to cover the ugly parts of the monster. Learned a lot and have a better idea of how to plan ahead next time!
