After a little planning I finally started on my garage extension. When complete it will be home to my two daily drivers and my 69 Camaro. Will end up with a 24' x 34' when done (went as big as could). Going to blow the back wall out once framing and roof are completed. Will post more pictures as I move forward.

A couple more pics from day 2. Removed old alum. Fascia and Soffet. Will replace with vinyl Centervent Soffet and Prebent ribbed fascia. I wanted improved venting and thought addition would blend into current garage better if it was all replaced with new. Only worked half a day rained out. Hopefully roof sheeting and shingles tomorrow.

Very nice work! What do you do to prep the ground before blocking? Sand?

Added a couple poured footer pics that I did not post from earlier on. The new footer is pined into the old.

I am going to remove one course of old block from the back wall then drill holes into existing floor and pin old floor into new. I will then level off ground, add screenings, tamper and then pour cement. Will add a vapor barrier as well.

Thanks for the complements everyone.

Outside vinyl, eves, soffet, gutters and down spouts completed. Think I will add an outside coach light on the back side wall near my pool heater and a couple vinyl shutters. Next will be concrete floor prep and pour.

Re: Ridge vent/My garage extension has begun!

Floor is prepped and ready for concrete. Plugs, lighting, insulation and finish walls are next on the list.

BTW I learned a little something along the way regarding roof ventilation. Gable end venting used in conjunction with a ridge vent is unnecessary. Gable vents are to be used with can type vents. A gable vent actually has a negative effect on the ridge vent.

A ridge vent works best with full ventilation from the soffet. See my soffet photos as this is the reason I used the center vent vinyl all the way down the side. When insulating, baffles are also used between every roof rafter to create a space for the air to flow into the attic. Outside air works it way up from the soffet and is then forced out through the ridge vent. The objective is to not cook your shingles as proper ventilation will prolong the life of the roof.
