I've planned for 5 years to build my dream garage. "Yeah right!!" All my friends said....I broke ground May 2015!! I am almost dried in. It is 36' wide by 42' deep. 2 roll up doors. Left door is 10' wide X 14' tall. Left side ceiling height is 16'-8". The right side door is 16' wide X 10' tall. The right side ceiling height is 12'-8". Left side floor space is 16' wide 42' deep. Right side floor space is 20' wide and 42' deep. The right side has concrete footers for 2 post asymmetric lift. I made and built in 5 floor anchors (dice pattern) for the lift. The left side has 3 floor anchors in line near the door. I made 2 columns from 6"X6"X 1/4" wall square tubing to support the 16W50 I-beam that clear spans the shop front to back.

Upstairs on the right side is a 20' X 42' apartment/living space with full 8' ceilings and all pocket doors used. Upstairs on the left side is 16' X 42' attic space that could be living space. I built a garage to attic lift (cargo elevator) on the left side. Floor opening is 4'-6" X 6'.

I am building it myself, doing everything myself. ALL ADVICE AND OPINIONS ARE WELCOMED. Just joined GJ so still learning posting and pics.

Huge congrats! Doing the concrete finishing yourself too? Looking forward to seeing this one with all the DIY elements. Frame type? Stick built with trusses? Pole barn? Wood or metal siding? Metal roof?

Nice on the elevator plan. Super handy.

Thanks Rogue
I did hire concrete finishers. The cost of tool rentals and man power it just made better since to hire finishers. I got a really good referral and only paid $1500. I think I got a good deal!!

All stick built. I can change on the fly with stick built. Like getting the right pitch to make my ridges meet.
Left side is a 14/12 pitch and the right side is a 5/12 pitch

Hope to be dried in next week!!

Gonna use Nichi Board (concrete board) siding and will paint it the same color as my house. Gonna tie the two together with decks/breezwayc9e6616f747a4dc2ad10f9e572a832f3.jpg

These are the floor anchors
I welded a piece of 1/4 plate to the bottom, cut a piece of chain 12" long and welded it into the bottom. Welded rebar to the sides and set them on concrete day so the tops would be flush 4" deep in concrete. The concrete was a little thicker in some spots (1/8"-1/4") so after concrete cured I used a grinding wheel to clean up and round the tops of the holes to one day make covers

I saw this online while looking for ideas for the cargo lift

This is a pic of my opening.
4'-6" X 6'
Not sure if I'm gonna do single line pull or make a two line pull system

Downstairs the front wall (with the doors) and the right side (only exterior walk through door) are 2X8 walls.

The back wall and left side wall are 2X6.

There is a block wall all the way around on top of finished floor. It's 3 blocks and a 4" cap high.

Thanks y'all
Signing the beam is something I've done on big union jobs and look forward to. Everybody that helps or contributes signs the beam...helpers, delivery drivers...they like it too

Spray a little clear over it when I'm done and it will be there forever...memories

32 feet doesn't sound high until you are 32 feet in the air, standing on a board that's 1-1/2" wide, stretched out with a nail gun!!!
Living the dream though!!!!
