My garage mild upgrade

I came into a bit of cash so I opted to use it to make my garage a bit more user friendly. I do most of my own auto repairs/fabrication so getting a lift was #1 on my short list of must do's. After searching which lift would be right for me, I opted for the MaxJax. I checked the thickness of the slab and in some areas I had 5+ inches of 3000 psi concrete but in some areas, there was only 3 1/2 inches. Ugh, so I rented a concrete saw and cut out sections of the concrete, tamped the existing soil down, placed 2 inch dobies down and used concrete mesh as the anchor. I then drilled 6 inches into the existing slab on all 4 sides, filled with epoxy and quickly hammered 1/2 inch thick by 14 inch long rebar pins into the holes that were filled with epoxy. I then poured 5000 psi concrete 1 foot deep, under cutting the existing slab by 6 inches. Prior to the concrete setting, I used the MaxJax mounting plate as a template on 1/2 inch plywood, drilled the holes and set the anchors into the wood. I sunk the anchors into the uncured concrete maintaining the template; then when the concrete began to harden, I cut away the wood and was left with perfectly countersunk anchors.

Since then, I've had many cars on the lift and it has performed flawlessly. To get the most height from the limited garage height, I had a new garage door installed with an offset opener which allows me to get most sedan height cars to max height allowable within the limits of the MaxJax.

The weather in Fresno has been scorching for the last month so I cut out an opening in the side access door and installed a evap cooler inline with where my tool box and lift sits. I will get pics of the cooler installed and update the thread later.

In all, I'm pretty happy with how things turned out however like most of you, I believe garage set-up is always a work in progress (much like my cars are) so I'll be at it again when time and funds permit.

Where are you in Fresno? We lived in Madera for about 30-years before moving to San Diego.

The lift looks great!

I would love to have a lift,
so what is your next upgrade?

Wiring in a dedicated 40 amp breaker/outlet for a welder as well as a 20 amp GFCI outlet for high torque electric tools. This will likely require a full panel upgrade. I believe the service line from PG&E will be fine (125 amp rated) as long as I'm not using all a/c, pool pump, dryer and welding at the same time. I also would like to put in a overhead CNG heater so I can work when the weather cools (yes it does get cold in Fresno, lol).

NW end, by Shaw & 99. We moved here about 25 years ago from So. Cal (Riverside) and haven't looked back. I can't even imagine how traffic is now on the 10, 91, 215 and 5, ugh.

They are the anchors that came with the MaxJax. I called the distributor and advised them of my plan. The stated that installing the anchors like I did would be fine as long as the abutment flange was collapsed as it would be if the were torqued in. The wet cement would form around the flange locking it in.
