Thanks... Its just a 22x24 two car garage... its as big as I was allowed to build on my little chunk of a backyard... I have 2 collector cars that will be housed in it when complete, and also have a second 2 car garage under my house that holds another 2 toys... My dad is actually the brains behind the project, and I'm his right hand man... learned a ton over the past 6 months... the insides are currently in the works, its fully drywalled, and the ceiling is textured... 6 eight foot florecent lights, wall mounted AC unit, radiant vent free heater, and will be getting a black and white tile floor.... hope to have it done in a month or so... heres a few current inside shots...sorry about the mess!

side view... those are false bricks made of vinyl on the lower portion, to dress up the unsightly cement block foundation... The lower portion of the front is now bricked with "real" bricks... but there was no way to do that onthe sides, as I had no solid foundation to start them on.... the "siding" bricks look pretty decent IMO.

Besides the Yenko what is your other collector car? When DInk asked to see the interior I was thinking the Model A interior. I wouldn't mind seeing that interior.

Its featured in this months issue of Musclecar Enthusiast magazine if anyone reads that one... Sorry I don't have any pics of dad's street rod interior right now, I may have some on another disc... For now here's a pic of my Deuce.

Glad you built a nice home for those cars. Your collection is what most of us car guys lust for. I also like your fathers rod.

Happy to see a two generation car family.

I LOVE THOSE STRIPES!!!

it's exactly what I was thinking of doing, with the addition of another black stripe above the red.

from the top:

-white wall
-thin black
-thin white
-wide red (or orange, haven't decided)
-thin white
-thin black
-grey wall

NICE NICE NICE!

Hey CamaroJoe

I love those stripes. I am assuming they are a vinyl application?? I base that on the litter in the above photo that resembles decal backing paper and the shininess of the red stripe. If so, where did you get rolls of it large enough to paper a 2-car garage and at what cost? Even with the largest roll, you certainly needed to blend a seam --- how did you do that? And . . . did you use a laser level to get the lines so straight?

If I guessed incorrectly on any of the above, please provide the what, where, how much and how. Thanx

Great job

Craig

Yes, the black and the red stripes are vinyl... I got the vinly in 150 foot rolls from a place called Letters Unlimited, but its supposedly available at any local vinyl graphics shops...150 ft was alot more than I needed, but i wanted ot be sure i had enough in case i messed up, as I had never tried it before... i was concerned if it would stick on the latex paint of my garage, but that was not a problem, and it actually sticks so tough that you cant peel it back even once after it makes contact with the wall... The brand name is Avery, same company that males office supplies. I had thought about using a laser level, but actually came up with a "backwoods" method to get my lines straight... which also worked for the gray paint that goes up to the stripe. I took a stick and drilled a hole in it the exact hieght i wanted to gray paint to stop and the black stripe to start... I then put a pencil in the hole of the stick, and laid the stick on the top of the molding that sits above the black foundation... i just ran the stick along the top of the molding, with the pencil in the hole, making a line exactly the right hieght the entire perimeter of the garage. Then all I had to do was paint up to the pencil line with a brush and roller, and use the top edge of the gray paint as a guide for applying the stripe. It helps if you have 2guys doing it, one to peel off the backing paper and "pull" the tape tight, then another guy to "eyeball" from a distance to be sure the tape is running in a straight line... then you just touch the tape to the wall at the far end, and gently work it down with a hard plastic squeegee, starting at the beginning and working to the end... the farther you go with each "pull" without sticking it, the less chance you have of getting waves or ripples... pretty similar to applying pinstripe tape to a car if youve ever done that. to get the correct spacing between the black and the red stripes, i just put a few chunks of 1" masking tape along the top edge of the black stripe, then used it as a guide to adhere the red... it really wasnt too bad. I guessit would technically be "possible" to do the whole garage with one piece of tape, but i made my life easier and cut it at each corner, rather than trying to wrap it around the walls and not get it running up or down hill... One thing to note... if you don;t have good mudwork on your drywall, a stripe will emphasize this, and when you sight down the wall, you will see every imperfection in your finishing work... similar to looking down the side of a car to check for bad bondo work. I'm very happy with the results, and even though my walls are actually painted with flat paint, the glossy stripes gives the impression that the entire garage is glossy when you first see it, because the stripes draw your eyes in so quickly.

No, its just an LT-1, but hardtop 6 speed LT1's are actually rarer than LT-4s... (not that I wouldn't rather have the LT-4!) I don't remember the exact production #'s offhand, but the hardtop cars are actually rarer than the T-Top and convertibles... I always liked how the stripes continued over the roof, plus it keeps the body nice and stiff... I just turned 6000 miles this summer, and have all the original paperwork etc. that came with the car when new, including both window stickers, dealer invoices, etc. Zero modifications. It still has plastic on the carpets... Is that your red 97? Looks nice... Know where I can get a new or nice used set of 275-40-ZR17 Comp T/A tires? They quit making them and I'd like an extra set of OEM tires for mine so I don't feel guilty about having a little "fun" with the original tires that are on the car....

Why don't you just buy some non OEM's and run those now and save your OEM's for posterity?

I considered that, but i'd prefer to find a complete second set so its always wearing the "correct" tires... I'm sure there are still some nice sets out there somewhere...

Just finished up the tile this weekend... starting to look like something! I still need to wax and buff the floor, and add the cove base molding. Not bad for 2 guys (myself and my dad) and 7 months of work start to finish...I guess 7 months isn't "overnight success" either, but this was the first building project i ever did... I like my garage better than my house now!

You guys did a good job, it came out very nice.

That is a mean drop-off on that door. You thought about adding a small step to it?

Very nice clean look. That wall heater you decided on looks like it should do a nice job in there. Where may I ask did you get that cross flags decal? I have a bare wall in my shop begging for one of those!

Mean drop off? Its one concrete block from the door to the floor... not too mean, I'd call it a standard step.

I was just thinking coming from the outside it is kind of a blind step and I would probably bust my *** on it.

Its standard Armstrong VCT Excelon Tile, the black was in-stock at Home Depot, the white I ordered, as the white tile they stocked wasn't the "brightest" white available... both black and white tiles have "speckled" pattern in them, which i didn't want at firs,t but ended up going with due to cost... (solid black and white tile was over 3.00 per sq. foot vs. 70 cents) I'm glad i went with it now though, as I have heard horror stories about scuffing and dirt issues when using solid black and white tile. It also shines like glass with a little wax and elbow grease, as thats what i am in the middle of doing as we speak. I also chose to go with 2'x2' sqaures in the pattern, as IMO 1x1 looks too "busy" for my tastes.

I have the same question. Is that a real Yenko? Would love to have one of them. But would have to get a devorce first. My wife thinks I have too many toys now. What do they know?
a 1931 Model A two door Sedan, 1970 Suburban and my driver 1986 swb Chevy Silverado. Your garage looks great. Can you really have "too many toys"? Do not think so. :headshake

Thanks guys... Yes, the Yenko's real. As for the crossed flags, it was made by a decal place... i had them enlarge a decal they already made, and told them i wanted it BIG.... its 30" wide, not sure how tall... they coulda went even bigger, but i think it fits nicely above the window... was originally gonna put it in the corner, but decided centered in the back of the garage was cooler looking. I still need to decide how I am going to decorate the 2 long bare walls on each side... Almost makes me nervous to even hammer a nail into the fresh drywall i spent so much time working on! I just got done waxing the floor... 4 coats of Armstrong Excelon Floor Polish, seems like decent stuff, but didnt have the "deep" shine I wanted by simply applying and letting dry... don't get me wrong, it looked nice, and the next time it needs a wax job thats probably what i will use again, but since this was the FIRST wax it ever got, i wanted a buffed look... I tried renting one of those big walk behind polishers, but the only "buffing" pad they had for it was a big piece of scotch-brite... i didn't think that was gonna shine a waxed floor too well, so I got on my hands and knees (knees are still killing me btw!) and buffed the SOB with my variable speed car buffer... just used a "seasoned" wool pad, and set the speed on medium... buffed it up like crazy, and doesn't seem to be too slippery. I then put on the black cove base molding.... Here's a few pics I took tonight.

Joe,

I see you found this site as well... Very nice garage!

I'm going to do the VCT tile as well (probably in the spring when the weather starts to warm up). I like the 2' x 2' sections... Looks a lot less busy than the 1' x 1' individual tile sections that you usually see. What part number tiles did you use? As you mentioned, it looks like several "white" tiles are available... Some brighter than others.

Looks like we had the same idea in dealing with the drains... Tile right over it, cut the opening for the drain, then apply a tile over the drain cover, and cut to fit. It looks great and doesn't break up the floor pattern.

The cars look very good too (I think that's the first time I've seen a photo of the Camaro). Couple of nice magazine articles recently as well... Congratulations on that as well. Still wondering what it's going to take to get that "PROUT" emblem...

Maybe one of these weekends I'll catch you at the Supercar Workshop when I'm in town.

Take care, and nice job on the garage Joe.

Regards,

Stan Falenski
