I've not seen a pod like that, or delivery like that. A neat idea!

Waiting for the progress to start!

It may be a North American thing. Very handy, almost 1 in every 2 moves i see in my neighbourhood use these to help people juggle their move out date with their move in date if they have to wait for their new place.

Interesting about your garage door. So i assume its been like that since you moved in and it was always on your to do list.

The POD was a great decision, having all the stuff out of the garage is great.

Dubber - I had the door replaced with an insulated one several years ago.
That was actually the first upgrade I did to the garage. I had just gotten the Camaro and the garage renovation got moved back until all the dirty work on the car was done. Just never got around to having the pipes moved.

Removed all the insulation from the pipes and removed a piece of plywood that was on the ceiling. I assumed it was covering up something. Sure enough, as soon as I took the wood down that part of the ceiling started to come down. The whole ceiling is old sheetrock with a 1/4" coat of what looks like cement. The garage is from the 50's so I don't know what the reason behind it was. All I know is it's very heavy.
So what started out as repairing the ceiling turned into ripping it down.
I'm kind of glad, now I can run all the wiring in the ceiling and no conduit and handy boxes. Will make for a cleaner space. Should have the rest of the ceiling down in the next few days.

I'm hot for that air hose reel. Every time I see someone's work in progress it seems to wind up costing me $200.00 or better. The last few weeks I have bought a wall mounted vac and a diamond plate cord reel, a shop stool, and now I guess a new hose reel. The garage journal can in your pocket fast. I am keen on that pod idea your using. You get everything out of the way dry and safe, and you can go to light speed to get your remodel done. Everything your doing is looking great!! Keep us posted.
Between dubber and a few others I am going in the poor house!

Thanks guys.

Andyaus - I thought about it, but I bought hanging shop lights that I really like.
So I will run the wires in the ceiling and just put outlets for each.

HSpencer - You're absolutly right, GJ has definitly made want more for my garage and I have a spent more money then I thought I would. But that's fine, it will be awesome in the end. I have not used the reel yet but it looks like a really nice piece. Can't wait.

Another section of ceiling has come down. One more to go.
This is not easy stuff to remove. Weighs a ton.

The pieces that did not go in the 15 contractor bags.

Just to show how thick this stuff really is.

Great work so far, what's most impressive is that you jumped right in and got some work done (hardest part). I'm sure even these steps feel great!

The window is going to change the whole work space - I bet it was a bit depressing working in the cramped space with no daylight before.

What part of the country are you in?

You're making some excellent progress! I really like how it's coming along. Can't wait to see the wall and ceiling finished and the new floor installed!

Excellent thread. I am in Rahway, NJ & I am no expert but if you need a hand and want some free labor and an extra set of hands feel free to message me. I hope to have the courage and time to be able to do something similar in the future and I could learn a lot from you.

aps63, love what you are doing with the garage. Looks like you have a great plan and are executing it well. Love the '70 RS also. I had a 1970 Camaro in high school and then a '71. When I got the '71, the interior looked much like what yours did, gutted. My dad and I learned a lot while restoring that car. Keep up the great work on both.

andyaus- The white is just the wall that I started to paint awhile ago before I started on the Camaro. That is actually a bathroom inside the house.

LCG & kfainf - Thanks, the Camaro has now become cleaner than the garage. I've learned and relearned sooo much rodoing it. Just like Garage Journal has made me want more for my garage, Pro-touring.com has made me want more for my Camaro. Both are great sites.

Didn't get much done today in the way of visual progress, spent 2 hours pulling all the nails out of the ceiling. Every 6 inches, sometimes every 3. Progress is progress I guess.

Last section of the ceiling came down today. Thankfully the last pile goes to the dump tomorrow. The guy's at the town dump are starting to give me the eye. Hope to start laying out the electrical tomorrow. I have to take back all the conduit and wire I bought. Exchange it for new wire and boxes I need to hide everything. Oh, how plans change. For the better I think. Should be a much cleaner garage without all that conduit on the walls and ceiling.

Garage is looking great, Paul, very nice progress. It's inspirational to see someone pull up their socks and get right into a project like you have.

Maybe you've mentioned it already in one of your previous posts, but have you made any additional plans besides overhead wiring now that you have torn down the ceiling? Can you make use of the beam(s) for a hoist trolley? Can you run airlines across the space using the 'dead' space of the beams' web? Any plans for a shop vacuuming system that needs piping buried along the beam; that sort of 'what if' future planning... Any thoughts of using sound deadening panels and insulation in the ceiling since you said there was an apartment above? I'm not trying to empty your wallet, just throwing some ideas your way! lol

OJ - Thanks

andyaus -No, It's a "Just because we're a dump does not mean you get to bring your whole house here. Rent a dumpster" look.

Omphaloskeptic - I have thought about those things and if my garage was bigger I would integrate all of them. I had insulation in the ceiling that I removed and will replace with a higher R rating.

Been sick for the past few day's so I'm behind schedule.
Got back to it a bit today.

-Ran all the electrical for the light fixtures, garage door, and reel.
-Laid out locations for all the wall outlets.
-Ran a seperate line for the heater I want to add.
-Figured while the ceiling was all open, I ran the wire for the garage door opener. Now it will be hidden in the ceiling and come down right next to the light switches.
No pictures but I will take some tomorrow.

While I was tearing the garage apart, my wife was tearing the hallway next to the garage apart as well. She is very pro-active that way. You can see in this picture that our house was made in an era when 2x4's were really 2 inches by four inches.
Ridicously sturdy, I love it.

Sheetrocking began today. Rented a lift from Homedepot, best $32 I ever spent. Made getting that 5/8" rock on the ceiling easy.

Finally starting to look like something.

Looks like you have quite a project going. Looks like it is gonna turn out great. the drawings are the key. If you dont have a plan to start with you end up exactly where you began only with new paint and shelving. I hope you were wearing a NIOSH respirator when you were tearing all of it apart. That ceiling you took down has asbestos in the concrete like material you saw. Its actually used for sound reduction and mainly to prevent a fire from spreading into the living space. Make sure you vacuum (with a 1 micron hepa filter) and mop, DO NOT SWEEP, the area and walls that got the dust on them THOUROUGHLY before all the new stuff goes in. Asbestos is an airbourne spread toxin and will not go away or deteriorate over time. It is dangerous FOREVER! You dont want that stuff in the nice new shop you are building. Good luck with the completion. I am subscribed.

Got most of the sheetrocking done today. Few small pieces left. Should be done this weekend. The wife started spackling today too. Then on to the hallway. Hope to have it ready for primer on Monday.

For now it's time for a beer. Cheers.
