This is a great transformation.

How much stuff do you think you got rid of from the original pictures?

Thanks BB,
To tell you the truth I kept about 90% of what was in the original pictures. Everything is just in drawers and behind doors now. I went from have 1 drawer to having 26. From 1 cabinet to having 3. The large Craftsman cabinet was a huge help too.

Thanks quasi,

Before I started the garage project I sold off 2 band saws that I had, mainly because they took up alot of room that I didn't have. I need to cut thicker metal often enough that I have wanted to get this combo for awhile now. It's portable and I can take it apart and hide it away in a drawer when I don't need it.

SwagTable_zps9f37e873.jpg

Just got the first piece from some friends of mine for my birthday. Wife ordered the table for me and I'm now waiting for that. Very nice piece, it has 5 speeds and a light. The table comes with a foot pedal option for $20. I had to have it.

BandSaw1_zpsbc4e2955.jpg

BandSaw2_zps54233e01.jpg

I got an old Craftsman 12" bandsaw for cheap with a speed reducer to cut sheet metal and exhaust tubing. This is how I found GJ, looking for info on the saw. I'm really hesitant to buy new if I can rebuild something or make it myself, but this looks like something I just have to have; and my birthday is coming up next month!

I think I'm spending too much time reading your thread as it seems to be affecting me subliminally. Notice how I painted the walls in my garage. I just used the paint and tape I had on hand and this is how mine turned out. Guess it's a new way of hijacking a thread.

I think I will try and find some old wrenchs to put in the racks.

I would love to find an old tool box and restore it. Similar to the one Red Leader found.

Found another piece of wall art. I've been a fan of Dr Pepper since I was a kid and I found this old thermometer. Not in great shape but I like it a bit rusty. Dr Pepper pre dates Coke by 1 year.

Awesome, Paul. I was always a cola drinker until one day my wife says it's kind of weird that I drink 12 cans a day, so I stopped for 6 months, just to see if I was addicted to the caffeine or the sugar. The first couple of weeks was kind of hard, as I really missed the taste, but after the 6 months was over , I never really wanted to drink cola much again( unless it has whisky mixed with it, haha). but I really enjoyed the flavor of DP , so I guess my tastes matured enough to enjoy it. I also like that it isn't so carbonated and doesn't have the "bite" of Coke or the syrupy flavor of Pepsi that I never like anyway.

Where do you find this stuff? Ebay?

Thanks Ric, your right I found both the Craftsman wrench racks and the Dr Pepper sign on ebay. Although I have been going to more local places to find other items I want to hang in the garage. The search continues for more cool stuff.

I've been waiting for this jack to go on sale at HF and this was the weekend. Ever since I replaced the Camaro's suspension my regular jack won't fit under it. Sorry to see my trusted Craftsman go but it's been about 15 years. Maybe I'll keep it as an extra.
Now I just need to find a pad for it.

There are some HF things that are pretty good, and this jack is one. We even have one at work for the same reason you got yours. Hey, that's a new "excuse " to buy more tools, lol.

That jack looks to share a similar look to my newest one. Really makes lifting a low car easy. Nice score, especially waiting for the sale.

How does the floor handle the jack lifting up the car and having Jack stands (no the tire cradles)?

Garage looks great!! I like alot of the ideas and plan to use some in my "remodel"

When do we ever need an excuse to buy more tools.

Cool wrench holders!

Thanks

Damn, saw the DP sign again, and now I want one, but it's midnight and I need to sleep, haha.

Late nights on Ebay have gotten me in trouble too.

were did you find the frig, I have been looking for one big or small!

I actually bought it on line and picked it up at my local Walmart.

Thanks. I've used my old jack on the floor with no problems, I haven't used jack stands though. I have some extra pieces of the tiles and would probably put them on those just in case.

Ok, I found this old compressor sold at Sears. I fell in love with the art deco design. The other picture is of another one restored. Trying to decide whether to just clean it up or restore it. I'm leaning towards restoring it to it's former glory.

Considering the age of this compressor the internals are in amazing shape.
The piston, rings, & crank are just about brand new.

Found some more Garage Art. Gas Station letters from the 60's. Should fit perfect on the cross beam.

Paul,

That compressor is in GREAT shape.. I look forward to checking out your progress on it. And those letters will look good on the beam I think. Cool updates.

Fantastic Vision for your Space and Great Job carrying it out.
Its a Shame to take some Cash saved for the Camaro, But it was well worth it.
Makes it alot more fun to work on your ride now...and enjoy some time with friends as a gathering place.

Liking the new garage art. Its fun finding those little touches at the end of the project. Kind of melancholic when the project is complete, so the little touches help to prolong the process, from my experience at least.

I like this compressor. It is necessary to restore!

Thanks guy's I agree, with one small change. I bought another, more complete one. This one is in better shape and has the "S" for Sears, the Craftsman plaque, the original base, and the original Maytag motor.

So now I will have to restore both

That's really why I did it. My time in the garage and with the Camaro is 100 times better now.

I've been working on the Camaro alot lately. Found a brand new Goodmark fender for $80 on Craigslist. For the price I figured just replace the one I had. The lower section was toast and the previous owner had filled the rusted spot in with bondo instead of cutting it out.

Fender1_zpsad78a6ba.jpg

I spent half a day trying to massage it to fit, and it still fit poorly. I then decided to get a patch panel and cut out the rusted area and replace it. Never did it before so I figured it would be a good learning experience.

Cutout_zpsd2a3e316.jpg

Now to the garage section. I didn't want to shoot welding sparks all over my new plastic floor. Found out the hard way that the floor doesn't respond kindly to small bits of molten hot metal landing on it. A little thought and off to Harbor Frieght for an 8'x 8' welding blanket (on sale $24.99, couldn't pass it up) plus some nutserts and eye hooks.

Nutserts_zps08345238.jpg

Drilled holes underneath the work bench top and screwed in the serts and then the eye hooks. Now I have a spot for welding and a way to protect the cabinets fronts, refrig, and floor. Unhook the blanket, unscrew the hooks, fold up the blanket and put it back in the drawer and I'm done.

Hey Paul,
I'm considering upgrading my 2-bulb fixtures to 4-bulbs like you have. Are the ones you have designated as "high bay" fixtures? The ones I have my eye on are, and I'm concerned they may be blindingly bright in my space. I'm sure you did a whack of research so I'm hoping to learn from your experience. Any feedback would be appreciated.

You're right Rick, I did do a bunch of research. Dubber is right about which light's I used too. I didn't see anything about them being "high bay" fixtures. I did the calculations concerning how many lumens I needed and went from there.
Here are 2 excellent articles from where I got all my info and created my lighting plan, which worked out better than I could have hoped.
The actual light bulb you use is just as important. I tryed several but finally went with full daylight bulbs. I will NEVER use anything else again. There is no other bulb for a working garage. I used Philips T8 Daylight Deluxe bulbs.

This is the thread in the lighting section about how to calculate your lighting needs. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=150938

It sends you to this article(which is great) about how to calculate how much light you need.
http://www.sawmillcreek.org/content....y-Jack-Lindsey

Hope this helps.

I've been looking at a DIY alignment tool kit. But at $400 I thought it was worth a try to make it myself. Here is the kit.

Here is what I started with.

About $100 worth of material. The most expensive part was the digital level, about $50. Now I just have to test it.

Good work. Longacre Racing wants $129 for their similar version, and it doesn't include the guage. If I may ask, what did you do to fasten the level to the adapter.Did you slot the ends so you can use tape measures to check toe, also?
