So, earlier this year, we started building a detached 2 car "barn" style garage. There's still plenty of things left to do, but the progress has been good. Here's some of the pictures of the process.

Footprint is 24' wide x 26' deep.

As its a pole barn, the beams are placed on large concrete pillars. You can't tell front the picture, but these go about 5' deeper than what you see.

Inside is all clear span, so a large engineered beam supports the roof. The posts are true 10"x10" and 8"x8"...they are freaking stout!

It took a coat of primer and 2 coats of stain to get to this stage. Will probably do another coat of stain next summer.

The floor is VCT. It took a lot longer than I anticipated because of all the cuts, but the result is nice.

The finished floor pre-polish.

Today was a big day, as the Mohawk A7 lift was installed

You can see 2 dull floor tiles...that's what it looks like without polish. I had 2 tiles that failed when I aligned the race car. Was easily enough to pop down a new one.

Testing the lift with the wife's car...better to drop this than the race car :).

Still need to spray insulate the entire interior, put up drywall and paint

I have some Rousseau cabinets on order, as I need storage desperately.

That's it for now. Will update after the next upgrade!

Welcome to the GJ. Nice looking garage, thanks for sharing the pics. I look forward to seeing more pics as you finish up the interior. Some pics of the race car would be cool also.

Great looking build, I love the true "Carriage House" doors. I would almost call this "Post & Beam" construction instead of "Post Framed". I have a ~80 year old building on my property that uses smilier construction (large braces, heavy beams, posts on concrete) except it has mortise and tenon joinery with wood pins instead of bolts. Keep posting your progress and good luck!
Thanks, Dave

Wow! That's about all I can say. Wow! That is one fine looking shop!

Course, if it had a gooseneck light, it would look just like Breeze's - haha.

Great looking barn! What color stain is that? I really like the dark red. We just started on our barn and are gathering color samples. I want to make sure we don't end up too pinkish.

Great looking garage!

Is that a Spec Boxster being prepped there?

Using solid black tiles where the tires will always be is a great solution for VCT, and breaks up the checkerboard pattern nicely- good call.

I assume you plan to insulate?

The Mohawks are great lifts, and you should get a lifetime of use from it.

Also, congrats on the ATC trailer. I had one for my race car, and loved it.

Love the tile design. Cool way to make something functional (parking box) be a part of the design.

Yes, its a Spec Boxster. I run it in PCA and its a blast. i also have a 964 Cup, which is just a wee bit faster ;). The Boxster is now on the lift for winter fixin'.

The ATC trailer is awesome. Bed in the front, sink and fridge make it a great one man trailer.

I think the floor design came out really nice. It did take a lot of cutting, but it looks nice even after some hard use. I'm interested to see how it makes out after a winter.

Rousseau cabinets arrived. I got them thru www.rousseausavers.com which has great pricing IMO. I am really impressed with the quality of Rousseau...every bit as good as Lista IMO.

Nice looking place! Exactly the dimensions I am thinking of. If you don't mind me asking, what is your budget?

That is a very nice garage and I really like it, including the color. You must not be in a HOA as I'm guessing they wouldn't approve the color since it would show up the dirty dishwater colors they seem to favor.

Can you squeeze out any attic storage space?

Great looking building/shop.

Two points:

Have you figured out yet that it's not big enough? :bounce:

And, if you are going to insulate and drywall the joint you better hop to it before you put too much stuff in there.
You'll get it filled up and it makes it very difficult to get the job done.

Super job on the building, but your comitting the cardinal sin of moving in before finishing. Get the walls done before the cabinets are filled or your going to be in the same fix I am in.

Yeah, I know I should have finished the wall first, but I had to draw the line somewhere! That will be 2011 project :).

Nice build! I really like the exterior. Hope to see more progress pics.

What brand is that oil drain tucked in the back of the pic?

That is the mac daddy of all oil drains from Liquidynamics. Its not cheap, but I wanted something large so I didn't have to empty it all the time.
