My wife and I bought our first house just over one year ago. One of the key requirements for me was a good sized garage. The house we settled on its kind of unique in its garage layout.
The original garage on the house is an oversized single car garage. Dimensions are 16ft wide by 25ft deep. In the late 90s the previous owners added on another 16 x 25 ft single cat garage on the back side of the house with its own driveway going out to the alley.
So I've got a tandem garage setup with 2 oversized single car garages, back to back. If you think about it, each of the garage is only a few feet short on the width to be the same size as a 2 car garage turned sideways.
I'm into working in our cars. I've also got the setup to do some home powder coating. I've got an old oven in the garage. I've also got some old kitchen cabinets and counter tops from my parents that I've used for storage and writing space. The compressor is wonderful for automotive work. And for my painting and sandblasting needs, it's big enough to get the job done.
For a first home, considering my wife and I are in our 20s still, I'm pretty happy with the state of my garage. I'm sure I will accumulate more tools over time. But as I stand now, I can pretty much tackle any job that comes my way. I've had the transmission of of my wife's previous car two times. I'm getting ready to change out the rear end gears on my 2008 Mustang GT.
I've got some pics of my front garage attached.
