Love the smell of diesel in the morning!!!!!!! I have to put up my NO Girls Allowed sign that I took down 14 years ago when my granddaughter was born, she loves the workshop with GPA..........any air freshing ideas that doesn't include scented candles [hate them]..........stinky

Last night my wife kept asking me about making a box for her. I'd ask what size, how tall, what materials, etc and each time she would have to go and think about it. I started up my buggy engine (340 buick) with no exhaust after the headers and 4 year old gas.....my wife came in and said that it was loud and smelled, left and didn't come back to ask me more about making this box for her :rocker:

LOL. I would just explain that we bought a house next to a garage. There isn't anything we can do about it. It's like complaining of the smell of horses next to a horse farm or the sound of a train next to the tracks. It's a fact of life.

Although I would check to make sure all my chemicals were in a cabinet and closed first.

In all seriousness, you could put a window or wall fan in to vent it out and maybe it would not be as noticeable.

Probably the only space on our property that we husbands can call ours...and probably the number one complaint from our wives is about how our attached garages stink. I don't want my garage to smell like a beauty parlor so she can get over it, or take her own can of room deodorizer with her when she goes in the garage. :D

Mine will smell musty if closed up, from the few left interior parts sitting in the 41 Pontiac. I have a window fan on one end and an open window on the other and leave it run 24/7.

If I run the 58 Chevy or 63 Ford, I get the smell of the rich gas mixture/no catalytic converter on me, and it bothers me. I used to like it, but not so much anymore. At least the shop is about 100' from the house. My wife has never complained about the smell, though.

I must be living in an alternate universe, my wife actually likes the garage when it smells like a garage, with paint fumes, exhaust odors and such!

Mine doesn't stink. Paints and solvents are kept outside as the should be. Same for greases and oils. The one time I had a stench was when I had a manual transmission apart on the bench. Whew.

I'd welcome the smell of gas or WD-40. Right now, mine smells like mold. And occasionally, it smells like methane as the drains dry up and the septic gas gets through.

Spilled gear oil on the floor a month ago. It still stinks like that now, even with fans running. Smells like going to an amusement park to me. I kinda like it.

Go to Bed Bath and Beyond. There is a product called fresh wave. It s gel and a liquid. Either spray or let it sit on surface. In 24 hours smells will be gone provided there is not an addition odor source feeding it.

Smells pretty good. Like outdoors with pine trees and cloves.

has complained ... [125 feet from house] ... smells ... Gas ... too hot to leave all garage doors open ...
...
scented candles [hate them]

Something tells me that if the garage is closed up, and STILL smells like gasoline from 125 feet away, you're not going to want a candle anywhere near that!!

Me too. Did a manual trans and differential oil change last month and still have a jar on the bench with a little leftover Redline 75-90. Can't resist taking a sniff of it now and then.

Let me refrase the question ,the Barn/garage is 125 feet from the house you can only smell anything in the barn/garage not at the house... when I am out there and weather permitting I do open windows [4] and 2 garage doors the people doors [2] will blow shut so they are left closed......right ow my model A ford is on jackstands and the rear brake were frozen so a lot of PB blaster, kerosene/aft fluid soaking the shafts in the hubs.........Of course all gas/flamable fluids anr stored outside in a separate shed [I built it to resemble an outhouse so it looks natural in the country] Will look for
some new car smell stuff or leather, manly smells............rob [aka stinky]

My shop smells like whatever project is on the hit list any given day. Although it always smells like Mobil Vactra in the machine shop area......

The greatest smell was the first time I used my 1924 Lathe. It smelled like a machine shop in there!

I went to an apple orchard last year and in the barn they had a corner with tools in it. Not sure what causes the smell, but it smelled just like my grandfathers old barn. I stood there sniffing for about 10 minutes and wondering what it was. This barn had a concrete floor and was in NC. Granddads barn had a dirt floor and was in west Texas.

I've been firing up my sled every couple weeks over the summer to both keep the gas fresh and keep the garage smelling like 2-stroke. Winter is coming!

I use 'eau de 5W30' myself. I had a litre leak on me last year.

Mine smells kinda funky because we had beans last night:lol_hitti

Ah yes, about the only place I can't blame the dog for my biological transgressions!

I love the smell of a 2-stroke exhaust in the morning!

Hmmmmmmmm. Unless she is a regular in the garage, I'm not really sure it's her concern. I too like garage smells and the last thing I'd want to do is make it all prissy. Then I would promise to never suggest she make the house smell anything like garage.

Ah, I forget about PB blaster. That's my usual garage scent. That, mixed with Redline gear oil, the nasty smelling wheel cleaner that I got, and fresh cut wood... it's a delightful bouquet of odors.

Some one should bottle those scents and make a perfume out of it. The wife would never keep me off of her.
