My wife and I just purchased a home out in Fruita CO and we are getting ready to do our garage. We've shared some before shots and are going to try and video and photo the whole process -- and discuss what we did and why

Glad you weren't doing epoxy. Could be a tough clean-up!
Cute kid.

THANKS! He is the youngest of 6 in a blended family so we have our hands full. As for epoxy etc. There is a time and place for most garage flooring and this just would not have been a good fit. We were considering doing an install video for epoxy first, but there is some stuff going on ion that slab that I just would not risk it.

Hoping to get to the install this weekend. The garage was taken over by someone with more authority who had a higher priority project --My wife was painting kitchen cabinets. :bounce:

We did roll out the mats to let them relax and it gave me a chance to see just how 'good' the camera is on my cell phone for some low angle shots that show the profile of the new coin product.

What I really think people are going to like is the traction provided by the textured surface and how easy it is to roll things across because of how close the coins are.

Nice videos Justin. You do a great job of showing the average Joe (or Jane!) that fixing up your garage doesn't have to be complicated. I particularly liked how you talked about seams disappearing with the G-floor. That's a question that always seems to come up when people are investigating roll out flooring.

Question - How does the small coin mat accept a mop for cleaning? The additional traction looks like a great benefit but it makes me wonder how easy it may be for cleaning up messes.

Actually we have 5 more videos in the works one of which is me mopping the floor. I have been doing this for over a decade and I will never use another pattern of roll out in my garage again PERIOD. It has solved so may of the issues.

We mopped with Hilway Direct Plus. Added a little gloss and keeps it really clean.

The coins are so close together that creeper wheels etc stay on top and yo don't get the roll...drop...roll...drop and there is no resistance.

As you stated the traction is a BIG improvement... Frankly we still have to say that any floor can be slick when wet but I dumped water on it and I could not make it slick... I am going to try dress shoes in water for one of our videos...

Bringing this thread back.....

I've gone from wanting to do epoxy to tiles, back to epoxy and now looking at these small coin mats. My garage is 19' wide x 18.5' long.

I could order 2 of the 10' x 24' rolls, and just have a single taped seam down the middle, but end up with a ton of unused material.

I see in your video you do a taped seam and then another **** seam with the center splice trim, instead of 2 taped seams. Is this to allow the center section to expand and float?

If I ordered 2 of the 8.5' x 24' rolls, I could do the same but would need 2 small perpendicular taped seams from my excess material. Would this work? Could I tape all the seams and still have it float?

Also, I saw that you stated on your website you wouldn't install G-floor without using the stain blocker. Since the small coin flooring has a textured surface, how would the top coat affect this?

Thanks

I see in your video you do a taped seam and then another **** seam with the center splice trim, instead of 2 taped seams. Is this to allow the center section to expand and float? That is exactly right. Especially this time of year, using the center strip instead of the seam tape is a great way to go.

If I ordered 2 of the 8.5' x 24' rolls, I could do the same but would need 2 small perpendicular taped seams from my excess material. Would this work? Could I tape all the seams and still have it float? With all the time and energy you are going to put into the floor, regardless of the material you ultimately select, the biggest piece of advice I can give you is don't cut corners for the sake of a little savings and follow best practices. Could you? Of course. Should you, definitely not. Less seams is better. More seams, especially with small pieces = more problems.

Also, I saw that you stated on your website you wouldn't install G-floor without using the stain blocker. Since the small coin flooring has a textured surface, how would the top coat affect this?

That is exactly what I did in my garage:
(Hilway over small coin video) It has worked incredibly well for me.

The only downside is it is a sacrificial acrylic. Every once in a while if water or something sits on it I have to add an ounce to a gallon and mop to make it look good.

This page has links to three important articles/videos: http://www.garageflooringllc.com/g-floor-must-read/

For a single seam down the center of the garage, would you recommend the center strip or tape?

Since you've had this installed for awhile now, have you seen any issues with the mats curling at the edges, especially the entrance to the garage?

If I had to do it all over again I would use nothing at all where the two mats come together and if it became an issue down the road I am leaning towards the center strip.

Funny you should ask the second question. Yes, I had a major issue. We knew we were launching small coin and we had no photography or anything else so I rushed into it and got a roll 8'6x100 before we were ready. As my luck would have it, they had to rerun the material, but mine was already installed. The fix is pretty simple though. A little 3M #80 or double sided acrylic tape at the entrance.

The big thing with the product at the entrance is cut it 1/2" short from the door.

My garage has a step down to the surface the door seals against.
