Was rebuilding my motorcycle motor so i had my camera out, figured i would share these with you.

my grandfather was a diesel mechanic / all around tinkerer. mostly snap on and blue point. some craftsman, williams. Ill add more pictures when i get the time.

only checked the date codes on the snap on midget stuff, was 1942. 5 years before my dad was born. pretty cool stuff.

Must...resist....urge....to....ORGINIZE!!!!

Very cool stuff I must say. Over the past year I have gained an appreciation for vintage tools and more so the stories behind them. Keep them close to you. Those are the tools of history and can be around for many, many more generations.

Thanks Capt, that's some great history there. You might want to go to the Alloy Artifacts webpage to see how special those tools really are.

ha i checked it out, it was from an automotive paint company, and he modified the other end, typically to open cans, now looks like a seat tool for a carb.

yeah i dont even know where to start on the organizing....

Is that tag engraved with his name/address on it? The one right above the craftsman logo? Pretty cool old box with lots of neat old tools!

I'd never organize a setup like that... its too much like it should be :)

most paint companies gave those out to customers........one end curved to open paint cans, the other for beer bottles

i have one in the shop.......

Nice stuff! Thanks for the pics. Looks like a lot of the stuff I find at the flea market (which now comprises most of what I have). I figure if it's been working fine for 40 plus years, it's good enough for me.

because of who they came from, those are worth a million bucks

I love having old stuff from my dad and grandfather.
I have the old wood desk that by grandparents bought for my dad when he was a kid, I also have his old chair and the old wingback chairs from by grandmothers house.
the stuff is in my house and we use them. I love having that stuff

I have a drawer full of them, old timer once told me they were called Church Keys.::headscrat

the ones i always refered to as church keys have a bottle opener at one end and a can opener at the other. i believe back before pop tops the package store threw one in "with the deal"

i have a falstaff, a bud and a PBR church key btw....

LOL, nothing like the customary threat of physical violence from the new father-in-law
to get all those new relationships on the right foot, from the get-go!

As a kid, I owned that very same tie-clip, a gift from my dad.
I tore the clip off and put it in my toolbox because it was a "real Snap-on tool."
Even at the tender age of six I knew that Snap-on was good stuff...
and gold-plated even better...and without the pansy-@ssed clip, even better yet!

Lost somewhere in the sands of time, wish I had kept it.

Elroy was thinking about the cool Snappy tie clip our new friend posted and that got Elroy to thinking about this little piece:

Elroy's roots are really in the tool and die trade. This has been in the dresser drawer a good 40 years !!!
