Was going through a few things today and thought these may be of interest to some. Grandfather came from England around 1900 or so, as a machinist, and first settled in Collingwood (Ontario) and worked at the Collingwood Shipyards. Later he moved to N. Battleford (Sask.) and worked for the CNR.

The group of tools show my first hammer, that I can remember, pounding on shingle nails with. The three calipers are marked "Moore & Wright, Sheffield, England" and the thread gauge is a Starrett #6 with original box. This stuff could be a century old, but I have really no info. to put a firm date on it.

The crowbar, I suspect, came from CN as it was always around our place. Whenever something heavy needed to be moved or a rock was in a post hole, this is always the tool that did the rescueing.

The rabbet planes and the caliper came from grampa's sister's place in Bournemouth, England. When their daughter died (1995) it effectively ended our family's direct contact with England.......she was the end of the line.

Thanks, I was born and grew up in Edm. and when the end came for my parents, I flew out to clean up the physical stuff (with my sisters). sure could not bring that crow bar back on the plane, so had my sister keep it until I drove out there. Never knew either grandfathers as they were long gone before I arrived on the scene. Just have wonderful momentos to cherish.........
