My grandpa made a new beginning in Germany after world war 2 with nothing but a wooden case with only 100lbs of all family goods in it, after the Czech people forced him to leave his home and deported him with his family to Germany.
Until the war he was working as car mechanic, and during the war he was maintaining the tanks and cars and later he was building wood gasifier into the confiscated civil cars. Fortunately he had not to fight. After the war he started repairing cars beneath the road under the open sky. After a while he was able to rent a small garage, but he was still working outside beneath the road, because the garage was so small, that there was only room for tools and spare parts.
Some years later he got a contract with the German mineral oil company ARAL and with VOLKSWAGEN and a accommodation, so he built a gas station and a car repair shop.
As young boy nearly each year I visited my grandparents during summer school holidays for one or sometimes two weeks and I loved to be at their gas station and in the repair shop. This might be one reason, because I think, I have gasoline in my blood.
My grandpa died in the age of 85 and I’ll never forget him and my grandma and the happy time at their gas station.
As I wrote in a thread in the flooring section, I started my garage remake a few weeks ago.
Some years ago I’ve found a picture of a living room with a Ferrari parking in it in the world wide web. Although our living room would be large enough and the window to the back yard would be wide enough to drive a car into the living room, there’s no way, because my wife was absolutely not happy with this idea.
So I had the idea, to make the garage to a living room or at least in the style of a living room. The term "man cave" does not exist in my language, but it is describing, what my garage should be.
After I’ve found a very cheap but durable laminate flooring in a local store, I had to start with it.
I’ve worked in my garage nearly every day in my holidays this summer. I not only was making the floor but many other things and so I changed it from a simple prefabricated garage to my man cave.
It is not all done, especially the electric wiring is still horrible, but I think, I can show you first pics.
I’ll do it in several postings, because I don’t know, how to place a picture on a fixed place in the text.
First I’ll show you the picture, which had born the idea of my man cave:
