Hi All,

I thought I would share the newest creation from my garage...my rolling tool cabinet. My goal has been to create a Rolling Miter Saw Workstation, a Rolling Tool Cabinet, and a custom workbench to finish everything off. I have already made my Rolling Miter Saw Workstation...it can be seen here: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=171263.

This is my latest creation, and as you can see it matches my Miter Saw Work Station pretty well. This is the front:

<a href="http://s1208.beta.photobucket.com/user/joanders/media/Rolling%20Tool%20Cabinet/photo14_zps339b93fa.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/joanders/Rolling%20Tool%20Cabinet/photo14_zps339b93fa.jpg" border="0" alt="Front"/></a>

And Side View:

Rear View:

<a href="http://s1208.beta.photobucket.com/user/joanders/media/Rolling%20Tool%20Cabinet/photo12_zps7ed25dd5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/joanders/Rolling%20Tool%20Cabinet/photo12_zps7ed25dd5.jpg" border="0" alt="Back View"/></a>

And Cabinet Drawers Open:

<a href="http://s1208.beta.photobucket.com/user/joanders/media/Rolling%20Tool%20Cabinet/photo11_zps628dd5c8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc362/joanders/Rolling%20Tool%20Cabinet/photo11_zps628dd5c8.jpg" border="0" alt="Drawers Open"/></a>

Just like my Miter Saw Station, this was made out of 2"x2" Aluminum Tube, with all of the wood being Birch finished with a Natural polyurethane (gloss finish). I will soon be moving into my new house (and garage!) and I will be building the workbench to house these rolling cabinets.

Once again, thanks for all of the creative ideas on this forum!

Very nice! This looks to be made of a nicer plywood than pine, is it a cabinet grade plywood? Also, how did you attach the drawer fronts to the drawer sides and bottom?

I don't comment on these things very often - but that deserves an A+ and I hereby inform you that I intend to steal some of your awesome ideas! (those pulls are spectacular).

Very smooth indeed! I'm working on a set of similar rolling drawer cabinets. Seeing what you have done is giving me inspiration and confidence that this is the way to go.

Thanks everybody for the compliments. I was in no rush to put these together, so I've found when you just take your time and put a little detail work into it, things will come out much better than you anticipated. I think it would be cool to build and sell these, but there was so much time into this I don't think it would ever make sense. It is pretty cool to think that someone would consider purchasing something you built all by yourself.

To "John in OH"- It is all 3/4" and 1/2" Birch, it is my favorite natural looking wood. And all of the drawers were made using pocket joints (I love my Kreg Jig!). The front of the drawers are "false fronts" and they were made to fit the opening of the drawer and they are attached from the backside with small screws through the real front side of the drawer.

Thanks again everybody! And yes, the first scratch will be tough, but after that I'm sure it will take a beating and I will be okay with it.

Fantabulous!

Not at all what I was expecting when I opened this thread (I am looking at making my own set of metal drawers in a metal cabinet), but very cool.

I like the mix of wood and metal and the repurposing of plumbing parts as handles. Build all of your storage like this and you will have a seriously cool workshop.

How is the aluminum frame fastened? I assume you welded it...if so, what sort of welder did you use?

Great attention to detail and cool design. I like it.

The aluminum frame is all Mig welded. I have a Miller 350P at my work so I get to play around with it. Thank you for the compliments.

The drawer slides are just the generic full extention ball bearing slides you can get at Home Depot. I think they are 18" long if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I'll sell one for a grand :)

My garage is slowly coming together, I'll post some updates once I get my main workbench built.

Here is the empty shell of my garage right after I installed some RaceDeck.

Wow, very nice looking cabinet!

I showed my wife the pictures and she literally said "wow, I'd put that in the bedroom". I pointed out the drawer handles, and she thought they were very cool and stood behind her statement.

Props to you.

I can't wait to see the build quality of the workbench if it follows the line of the tool box. Racedeck looks good in that pattern.

Found you while looking for examples of the home made tool box setups; I'd like to make some home made drawers and partitions in the cubby area under the transmission benches in my garage

Looks great!
