Current state:
Not quite finished, but 90% there. I live in a modestly sized 2500sqft home and have a family, so space is at a premium. My wife lets me have free reign of the garage as long as she can still park in there at night. So I decided to turn the garage into my light-duty workspace (mostly stuff like suspension and minor engine work) and a mancave for parties, football games, gaming, movies, etc. I've got the projector (Optoma UHD60) and the 150" fixed frame screen is going to be delivered Monday so I'll get that all put up next week.
It was a basic finished garage when I bought this house, had builder's beige paint, no insulation, and just boring in general. So I looked into doing blown-in insulation, but for various reasons it ended up being better just to take everything down and start from scratch.
Added a new 20amp circuit and a few outlets to run my pressure washer and my small-medium sized air compressor. I'm an IT guy so I also put all my home server and security equipment into a wall-mounted enclosure.
I found a great deal on MDF slatwall from a local store that was moving locations, $5/ea for 4x8 sheets, normally ~$50/ea from Home Depot. I decided to cover one wall with it entirely, even if I wasn't going to use all of the surface area for hanging stuff, it was cheaper than drywall and easier to work with.
Specs:
- 23' deep x 20' wide x 10ft ceiling
- NewAge Bold 3.0 Cabinets
- RaceDeck FreeFlow flooring
- 6x dual LED lights 6000k, "Barrina" from Amazon
- Fully insulated (walls, ceiling, garage door)
- Mr Heater blue flame natural gas heater
- 54" ceiling fan
- High-lift garage track conversion
- Liftmaster 8500
- Server Equipment
- Gaming PC w/ 34" monitor
- Old Sharp 52" LCD TV
Near Future:
- Install Projector and 150" Screen
- Finish Painting
- Install ceiling speakers for Dolby Atmos
- Clean up wiring
- QuickJack
Far Future:
- Mini-Split Heat/AC (maybe?)
I'm leaving out lots of little details and didn't really take very good pictures of the progress. I've been working on this for the last 8 months or so, almost completely by myself, with the occasional assistance from friends for a couple hours here and there. I only really got to work on it maybe one day a week just due to family commitments, but it's almost done.
It's small, it's simple, but I think it will work out pretty well once I get everything figured out.
