First of all big HI since I'm new here, I'm from Bratislava, Slovakia. This forum is so awsome, has always inspired me. I've been thinking about building my garage for quite some time and this winter my dream came true. So here's my little project.

I started with some google sketchup stuff.

I did the whole house, backyard etc. just to make it fit in real life...

speaking of real life, it all stared on October 30, 2011:

as you can see there are quite a few trees in the way and I didn't want to ruin them so step 1 was to relocate them.

I also relocated some of the grass that would be destroyed and fixed front yard with it.

Step 2: Dig a hole...
315850_10150337529276269_549431268_8401821_1057662024_n.jpg

Step 3: Fill it!
313595_10150339928236269_549431268_8416728_1240569011_n.jpg

Step 4: Pave the driveway
320789_10150344268596269_549431268_8447186_2087422550_n.jpg

Step 5: Park it

All this work was done within 10 days, then I had to wait for garage door to be made. After 1,5 months it was ready. Prefabricated steel garage was put together in just 8 hours and garage door install took about 6 hours (by professionals). Here's the result.

Now I plan to work on garage interior... drywall, internet connection, audio, siting area, working area, lighting, floor etc. I will keep you updated with photos.

cheers:

Very nice, would have liked to seen some pics of it going up also, why's the cement floor so rough?

Nice garage. Nice V-Dub! Did you dig the whole foundation by hand, or did you have some mechanical help once you stripped the sod and moved the trees?

thanks guys, cost of pre-fab garage with hormann electric garage door was around 7500 Euros incl. labour (both garage and garage door install). About the snow, I live in western Slovakia (Slovenia is a different country) and we had about one inch of snow this year and it melted right away :). Cement floor is rough because it's not finished yet, I need to put down some leveling coat and then paint it. The foundation was dug by excavator, trees by hand.

That is nice! I am interested in the prefab structure design. I don't see any visible vertical support system in the walls. Are these panels that also hold the roof load with some type of structure inside the panels? Do you have any construction photos?

What a great build.

I love these builds, have the basics done, then finish as your budget and imagination allows.

The Golf looks good too, nice to see a 4 door done up.

thanks guys. There are no vertical supports, there's no need because walls are tough enough to support the lightweight roof even with some serious weight on the top of it (snow). It's also good for saving space, walls are just 5-6 cm thick (2 inches) since most garages in my country are made of bricks and in that case your walls are around 40 cm thick (15-16 inches). BTW (dry)walls are done by now, I 've also managed to install smaller LCD (19inch) and couple of speakers in the ceiling.

and my mk3 is swapped with 1.8T 20v audi engine

I'll post some more pictures of garage soon.

Hey Sven, that is a fantastic install, the engine bay looks like it is done to a factory level.....very cool. I am looking to stroke my motor add a bigger turbo on my mkiv 1.8 but have a 914 that really needs me to get on with the electrical. Really hoping to get it on the road this spring after a multi year rebuild. Lots of projects and never enough time. Great car / thread! Grant

Looks great Sven ! Love the mk3, I had a mk3 Jetta VR6, Vento in your neck of the woods. Those 3 piece BBS that I spy ? What kind of cluster do you have in there ?

Awesome build, Sven850. I love the "sleeper" look of the garage. With the trees, it's difficult from the outside to get a sense of the scale, which can be a good thing. Inside, it looks nice and big, and is really looking finished with that drywall.

thanks. Those wheels are BBS RS 302 (8x17) and yes they are 3 piece. Cluster is out of vw-audi group brand skoda octavia.

Anyways my general idea about the interior is dark gray walls, white ceiling. Floor should be a cast floor in white as in the picture below...

I remember your car from the Vortex and Performance VW mag. That's a pretty nice garage! Welcome to garage journal.

Sven,

Yours is a NIIICE garage. Congratulations.

Unless the photos are much darker than it is in real life, I think you're gonna need quite a bit more light to counter the effect of the darker walls. The white floor looks outstanding; I hope it holds up well.
