Stone prepped, drains in and ready for concrete. 5.5 inches and a 4 foot apron going all the way across and wrapping into a short sidewalk on the right side to a man door. Buried a run of 4" core flow for power and another run of 3" conduit to accommodate a cold water line and 2 cat-5E cables. It landed under the man door.
Those 4" sweeps are a pain in the ***.

As you can see, the trusses are cathedral (?) Style running from the 10' walls up to the 12' center. I'm planning on using steel on the ceiling and blowing insulation on top of that.
Going to try out the side mount door openers.
Walls are going to be Ford blue steel around the bottom 4 feet or so, white on top, and maybe a 8 inch blue stripe around too. We shall see.

Is the garage builder also building the new house? The garage looks great, and is a good example of post-frame done right!
No. He's having such a hard time finding help he won't take on any outbuildings.
The builder did help me plan it before I found a steel building construction company To get a bid from.
Thanks for the positive feedback.
My last shop as it seems. Getting old.
A long way from the first, a lean to with a dirt floor.

Had my first surprise visitor today.
Can you see him?
Was pulling some 2/0 and happened to notice I was being watched from above.

Went inside and he came down for an inspection.
A nice healthy black snake that appears to have just shed. I've never had a snake phobia and I'm aware of these being immune to venom.
They will kill and eat rattlesnakes and copperheads which we have in this area. So as long as dude is around, we shouldn't have any bitey things in the yard.

Make sure you offer a long term lease agreement so he can be in Charge of pest control.
A great idea. I'll draw something up and leave it there with a pen for him to sign. No thumbs might be a challenge in holding the pen, but who am I to say ??

I like the outside colors.
How much did the trusses add over standard?

That black garden hose does not seem afraid of you?

The black garden hose knew I was no threat I guess.. 🤷‍♂️

My initial quote was for 12 foot walls and straight trusses. By going to 10 foot walls and those trusses the expenses almost offset each other. The bottom line difference was about $300 bucks more. Glad I did it.
From the outside, the building is less warehouse looking with the 10 foot walls and lighter roof pitch.

Question for other metal building owners.

My first go-round with metal.
What do you use to protect the exterior corners from hoses and cords and the like?
Really don't want to install some type of bollard.
Ideas.. 🤷‍♂️

Getting there.
The foam is 2 inches of closed cell.
The baffles show how much blown in will be on top of the ceiling.
20230712_121332.jpg

Looking up between the inside header (?) And the outside wall. Stuffed with some kind of black insulation prior to foam spraying.
It reminded me of a black floor scrubber pad material but much softer.

The guy spraying this said in our PA climate, most are using mini-splits for heat and A/C, and this stuff makes a post and frame building approximately 600 times stronger. 😳

Picked up 14 2x12x8.5 rough cut hemlock boards.
Not dry yet and definitely felt like it. Probably 50lbs+ each and a solid piece of wood.
Going to line the inside walls at floor level with these with a sill plate gasket underneath keeping them off the concrete, not only as a protective border for anything rolling against the wall but it will lift the 3 foot charcoal liner panels going around the bottom of the walls up a little bit.
I'll do a corner cap of some sort and probably paint them this winter.
The little ledge they'll provide is a great place to hide wiring or air lines as this develops further.

Some more progress pictures.

The 4 footers I used. Pretty awesome that these LEDs let you choose the color as well as the brightness.

Scored this gem. A young man listed it on FBMP, and when I saw it was completely restored I asked for the story.
His Dad had an auto repair business and it was his. It got tired, and his Dad restored it only to pass away a few days after it was done. I think he said his Dad was 87 and still turning wrenches on all kinds of stuff.
I felt privileged to buy it, and my plan is to run it until I'm 87 too. If I need a bigger tank, I'll put one at the other end of the shop.

Planning a high storage shelf/mini-mezzanine above the windows.
Full 40' width attached at each end and supported with 5 brackets I'll make.
Basically one on each post beside the windows and one in the center.
Here's a picture of something similar to what I have in mind to support it from underneath.

Screenshot_20230923_174642_Samsung Internet.jpg

It'll be 24" each way, and I might use 2"x4"x3/16" seamed for the angle support, as I've got 2 16 footers in the stash.
Powdercoated and screwed into the posts.
The idea is obviously storage above that won't interfere with a car on the lift and It'll provide a place to run air lines and lights over the coming 14' work bench.
Getting there.

Really nice shop! Looks great. Nice score on the compressor and I'm sure that you'll get a ton of use out of it. Did your varmint control inspector sign-on? Those guys are nice to have around. I've only seen one that size in my yard here in the Richmond VA area - had a nice bump from something that was just consumed...had to scoot him out of the yard as my dog was way to interested.

I think it's almost done on the outside. Thinking I might add a small awning of some kind over the right side man door with the extra steel left over from the project. Probably get to that in the spring.
Got a good connection for some millings for a driveway base. I'm thinking we'll distribute the rest of them, get after it with the big rake and transit for a little bit of pitch, and I'll rent a roller for the day.
20231017_120403.jpg

A little perspective shot on the rough cut 2x12s I put around the bottom of the walls inside. That'll keep things from beating the hell out of the steel, and they can always be painted or replaced if my plans change without taking everything off the wall to remove panels. I put a sill plate gasket under them, and I'm thinking the little space on top is perfect for running pex air lines and will provide a little bit of protection too. Speaker wires should tuck nicely under the flange/cap where the white panels start.
Hope ya'll are enjoying your shops.
