Just picked these two sanders up from the auction for $40, anyone have any info on these?
The belt sander is a Rockwell 31-501 and the disc sander is a Powermatic 35. Both missing parts but I couldn't pass them up for the price.

The only info I can offer that that you ****!

The disc sander is probably worth $300 unless it's a total basket case. Are they 3 phase?

haha, thank you! I don't mind sucking when I get new toys like these!

The disc sander is missing the steel disc and would only turn back and forth about 1/8 of a turn like the motor was jammed up. I just looked at the motor cover and there was a big dent touching the cooling fins inside. I pulled the cover and banged it out, now the shaft spins freely!! The motor is a 3/4 HP Robbins & Myers 3 Phase, will it not work on single phase? it has 220/440v and 208v on the labels shown below.

The belt sander is missing the top roller and needs a belt, otherwise I think it ok. It has a 1 HP Baldor 3 Phase on it. It also says 208/220/440, will it not work on single phase 220v? Im not too knowledged in anything over 110v ac and usually stick to 12v dc so this is french to me.

If anyone has the disc or roller for these, post up PLEASE!

You can get a phase converter to run that 3 phase motor on a single phase...or you can run a frequency drive (more expensive).

Top of the line machines. With some reseach you should be able to find parts. I would find some used 1ph motors and replace the 3 ph. There are guys on feebay that sell old machine parts.

@ Chad, can you run 2 machines on 1 phase converter? I don't know much about them. I can change a lite bulb but thats about it.lol

Great finds over the years I could kick myself because three phase machines would go for next to nothing and you picked up some very nice top quality machines. My guess is that most people do not want to spend the extra money on phase conversion to run the machines.

Must not have scrapers at your auctions theres 80-100 in scrap value there

the scrappers were the only ones bidding against me this time, usually its me and a few older diesel mechanic shop owners battling it out for the shop tools and cabinets but they usually win.

Spongerich, got your pm, thank you and I will certainly check it out.

Thank all y'all for stopping in!

I like your sig, I'll buy and sell anything legal, though these are not for sale. I do not sell any of my tools until I have upgraded or several of them sitting around.

From the serial, it looks like the belt sander is a 1965 Tupelo Division model. The label on the disc sander says Powermatic Model 35, Serial Number 67-1207. Does that mean this is a 1967 model, I could not find details on this one?

A lil more suckery to add to the thread. I scour craigslist daily looking for deals, one day I sit down for lunch and hit page refresh while I am unwrapping my burger. Before I get a bite, I see "drill press $100" listing. I look at the ad, the picture ***** bad, I could barely make out that it was a floor model(what I need) and could not make out any other details at all, it looked kinda small. I text the number asking if they know the brand or any info and get a reply that she does not know anything about it, except it turns on and it is really big/heavy. I thought she was exagerrating, I made a blind offer of $80 and she accepted. When I got there, I see this monster in the door waiting for me. I quickly paid her then her hired muscle and I loaded it in the truck and I burnt off! Its been painted over so I couldn't make out anything but the stamped model and serial numbers after I got to the shop. Turns out I bought a 1980 model Delta Rockwell 15-665 6x6 Six Speed Drill Press for $80!! I need to weld the table height bar back to the adjustable collar, lube it up and change that pos light switch out for the oem power switch.

I had to combine a PM30 (like above) and a PM33 (belt only version but like above) to make a complete machine. They are great sanders, if you can I would change out the motor to 1PH to not have to hassle with a VFD. BUT, getting a VFD will open your world to more 3PH tools (read: cheaper). I use 1 VFD to run about 6 different tools in my shop, I just have long pigtails on the VFD that I switch between my machines, a bit of a hassle, but cheaper/easier than a RPC and gives variable speed for all of my tools.

Does the PM35 need anything else? I have some spares left...

Great buy. The downside is you'll have several times over that $40 in them when you round up the missing parts, get a converter or VFD, wiring and are operational.

The guys over at OWWM will have parts, but they won't be at your bargain prices.

Thanks for the links BD1, I will have to check those out.

Does the PM35 need anything else? I have some spares left...

I need the Disc Plate for the PM35, looks like a 3 screw hole style. Other than that I just need to swap motors or get a VFD.

thanks Darkk, I just started looking last year for some heavy metal working tools and ran into all three of these in the last week. its been an exciting week!

yes Packard V8, I see the missing drum for my sander going for over $400 already, gonna have to do some looking and waiting to get the right prices.

thanks for stopping by!

Great purchases!!!!!!!

You practically stole those sanders.......................

I paid about $250 for my Delta 6x48 belt sander..... I had to buy the table for it separately from Ebay for $50. Mine has the all cast iron base.

I also have the delta cast iron base metal/wood band saw and the 17" drill press...

check out the OWWW.org website for some fun browsing about your machines.... you'll be hooked on olde arn..... :bounce:
