Fin's Place

Hello. I am new here, found the site looking for ideas for a work bench that I am going to start building. I thought that I would share some pictures of my garage build as I go, as I have started a little bit and have some more plans. This build is on a very small budget and as everyone else, I will be doing all of the work. This is my first house and really the first time that I have tried to do any of the work that I will be showing. To start, the garage is an attached 2 car with a work space. When we moved in, it was all white with some old kitchen cabinets. On top of the cabinets is the old laminate counter top. The cabinets were an ugly shade of brown. I first painted the cabinets black, and that was about it. Recently, a neighbor offered me a chevy 350 as payment for helping him work on a 68 Firebird that he bought. Of course I said yes, as I have an 86 s10 that I built that NEEDS a 350. But, my wife said that I could not bring it home until I cleaned the garage up from all the stuff I have thrown all over the place. I had just finished redoing the laundry room for her. Anyway, since I had to "clean" the garage, I desided that it needed a coat of paint, the doors needed to be painted and some garage art needed to be hung. Well here is the first picture. I will add more later (not at my home computer right now).

Also, here is a shot of the laundry room that I did. The flooring that is in the garage was in the laundry room, that is why there is only enough to cover the work bench area.

Thats a good start. Looks like a Sporty in the corner? I'm going to build a stainless steel workbench. Actually stainless sheet over steel frame. May be a good route for you? My .2 cents anyway...

Yes, thats a Sporty in the corner. Its a 2003 100th anniversary 1200. I was thinking of using stainless and my wife had suggested diamond plate. I just dont think that I want a metal top. The work that I do, I really dont need a metal top. Plus I would want it to be all nice and shiny all the time so I would have to go nuts polishing it. A

My plans for this wall are :
-get rid of the these cabinets
- build a better bench,
-add at least 2 outlets to the wall, maybe a outlet strip
-get rid of the black board and add peg board from corner of walls underneath the cabinets to the circuit breaker
-then this wall will get painted a dark grey.

Here is my pride and joy. I bought this when my wife got pregnant with my youngest, who is now 7. It was my DD up until March of last year when I bought the Dodge Caliber. I have done all the work on it except for welding and having the ****** rebuilt. It is a 1986 s10 Blazer, 2.8 v6, 5 speed.

And here is one of my ideas for the counter top of my work bench. I made this top for the island in our kitchen when we redid it.

I am also considering making a concrete counter top for the work bench and then covering it with one of the epoxy kits you can get a Lowe's.

Here is what the Blazer looked like when I first got it.

Well, anyway, that's enough pics of the Blazer. Will post more pics of the garage as I go. Thanks for looking.

Can't wait to tear into this, not having all the doors and drawers is driving me crazy. The board that is up there now is gonna get removed and peg board will go up from the circuit breaker to the end of the wall. This wall will be dark gray.

Nice start. I always store my paint cans upside down, they mix better when you go to use them, not sure if anyone else does this??

nice, but i have to ask, are the AK and shotgun, real, or replicas? if real, then you should probably keep them stored in a safer manner.

The guns are real. I live in a rough neighborhood and need them easily accessible. Kidding. They are airsoft guns. Shot gun stays unloaded and the battery for the AK is in a cabinet.

The work bench isn't Purgo. Its Anderson (same stuff). I figured why not. I have it left over from my laundry room and only paid $7 a box for it, and I used one box so so far I have +-$30 in the bench. See how long the top lasts?

yeah my first guess was airsoft, but you can never be sure, i have a few airsoft guns and rifles myself, and i keep them on top of my bookshelf :D

But i never use them for "games" just for shooting targets.

I have one Knight's Armament Company PDW, Gas blowback rifle
One remington 700 replica co2 rifle

And a few glocks, battery, gas and c02.

Yeah, my airsoft guns are some cheapies from Sports Authority. They are just for shooting around in the backyard with the kids. I would like to get some better ones to play some games with, just have to many projects to find time.

Been a while since I updated. I finally got my peg board up and painted, just need to organize it now which I worked on a little. Work bench is useable, but not done. I am planning on building around the frame I built to add some doors and drawers. I will post up some pics later.

Oh, and I painted my circuit breaker panel door.....

I second the storing the paint cans upside down trick, I do that with all my pinstriping paints, otherwise they're solid as a rock next time you go to use them.

Love the Blazer, you don't see big clear glass like that often, I love that!

With the paint i always punch a few holes around the groove. Where the lid seals, this allows the paint to drip back in the can, also it does splurt out when you hit the lid back down.
Also store upside down, that way the skin form on the bottom of your paint if you dont use it for a while.
How does the GAP bag fit in with the hockey stick. lol

Man, Shapping up nicely.... I sure wish that we could get Yuengling around here. That stuff rocks. Love the Lager....

Yeah, I was so excited when I starting moving back north slowly and could get Yuengling. I grew up kinda near Pottstown, then was living in New Orleans, couldnt get, moved to Va Beach and I could get it again. So happy.:willy_nil

Thanks all. Should start on facing the bench off and getting some drawers and doors on it. Still have to get some outlets on the work bench wall also.
