I found this forum a little late to post pics of my Man Shed as it progressed, but I'll post them anyway. My split level house had a green house on the south side if it since it was built in '76. Over the years, the green house fell into disrepair from not being used. Eventually, the frame rotted and slid off the foundation. Not sure what I was going to do, I gave the GH to a friend in return for him removing the frame and glass panes.

After everything was removed, I was left with a 10' x 20' pad of river rock surrounded by a foundation, a 24" wide access from the lower level, and a HVAC vent from the house. I looked at it and figured what the heck, I'll build a man shed. I had a contractor friend dig out and pour a floor where the river rock was. He also poured a small pad where the door would go.

I decided to go with 24" OC, 2"x6" construction, insulated with R-19 batts. To add some light to the room, I had a couple of windows built to fit in between the studs and ordered a 4' x 6' insulated roll up door. I had a 24" insulated fire door built to replace the flimsy hollow core that was currently installed.

Looking good. Nice piece of work on that conduit. ;):D

Ha! That's the remains of the old green house wiring. Note the vents on the wall. One is the end of the HVAC run, the other allowed heat from the green house into the space between floors during the winter. It was controlled by a thermostat in the doorway.

Good idea to enclose your space. Are you going to have a shop in it, or just a man hang out? You can do quite a bit in a 10X20, and you can find many ideas on this forum. We will look forward to this coming along. Thanks for posting here.

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

I'm going to use it for a couple of old Japanese bikes I mess around with. I'm hoping to find some ideas to help maximize my space utilization as well as add some nice touches to the shed, and this site sure looks like the place to find them.
