I remember seeing your mkiv at sowo (2010?) when it was black. Absolutely blew my mind, I never got enough time to check out everything you had done, but I’ve always loved seeing your work. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who is in love with the mkiv platform.

Started a small project that in my mind is one of the critical "cogs" in things all coming together. There was a small roof over the man door outside the existing house/basement garage (you can see the header board and light) when I started the project, this had to come down to build the new garage. My plan has been to use this space on the side of my house to build a small shed to store my lawn tools/equipment, as well as move my air compressor outside to cut down on noise.

Finally got a decent weather day and had a buddy willing to come lend a hand, its amazing how much time it can take to set a few posts, tear down some siding and get a header board up...



What we started with, excuse the mess, this has unfortunately been the fallout for all things during construction.....and yes, I feel guilty that my lift has been outside all this time

Siding cut/removed and old header board removed.

This was our stopping point for the day, my buddy helping, who is a builder (I was his helper), had to leave to go to a volleyball tournament for his daughter, but this was pretty good for about 4hrs of work I thought. Hopefully pick back up next weekend, weather permitting

Well after 2 weeks of pretty much non-stop rain the weather has cleared up and we were able to get the shed framed up! Was hoping to get more done yesterday, but had an unfortunate little accident and fell through the roof putting up the last piece of plywood, so that ended my day/weekend.

Getting the roof put on this week, then will need to get the air compressor out there and start getting the deck boards on the sides to close it in.

Seemingly small/silly update, but this is a big cog in my master plan to get the existing basement cleaned up/out, then can start getting the outside of the garage painted and move to finishing up the inside.

Plan is to place deck boards all around with a barn door on the far left for parking my lawn tractor, will likely do another small door over by the people door to the existing basement.

AC unit is staying there, air compressor will live beside it. Everything should see plenty of air flow...here is a crude MS word/paint sketch

I was planning to build something off the side of my back shed for mowers, gas cans, welding tanks. The stone floor would save money since its just storage with ventilation. The deck boards will look good to conceal the contents and block most of the wind and rain! Jim

That's exactly what I want to do, get everything gas related out of the basement/garage and get my air compressor outside also.

Small but exciting updates for me.

Got the roof on the shed Sunday, got the old concrete slab moved under the shed (still need to level it up) and got the lift into the new garage!!!

Hope to start cleaning up the lift in a couple weeks as time permits. I've decided I am going to finish up the last couple runs of electric, then get someone to come in an drywall the ceiling so I can get lights installed, then start thinking about getting the floor coated.

When you said "shed" I envisioned something a LOT smaller!

I have complete shop envy now cause I'm still working out of my little 2 car garage.....I've almost given up on building mine as I don't think materials prices or the backup of buildings still waiting to be built is ever going to ease.

Well, that size really just made sense in my mind, like I mentioned I'd like to get all my gas powered tools out there, so this should give me enough space, plus have a nice little covered area outside that man door.

Material prices are crazy, I would have expected they would've started to fall by now....Don't lose all hope, maybe once the Canadian border opens back up things will start to come down.

Thank you, some may not like the mk4, but I certainly find them to be rather enjoyable (well the R32 platform/chassis).

Imagine all of the 2.0L emkay eye-vees out there. Those cars were turds, and the amount of coilpacks and window regulators kept VW in the parts business for all trim levels.

I just had a lazy 12v VR6T in boring old Tropic Orange to keep me happy during those years.

hahaha, funny thing....the first 2 VWs I ever drove were an mk3 jetta and GTi, both with the 2.0L in them and I thought they were great! LOL

Tropic Orange GTi would actually be a really cool car/color to still have as a play car, that or Cosmic Green

Not a crazy update, but actually felt like I used my new garage (a little)....I had done a little clean up a few weeks ago after I finished the shed, move my file cabinets (that will go in the current basement for parts storage, and just a little general "tidying up" so it helped things feel a little bigger...then pulled the silver car in and parked essentially where the lift will be installed.

Doing a tire/wheel swap for my blue car, so pulled said wheels off the silver car....had the garage door open since its been warm here, it finally made it feel not so "small" plus I thought the photos just looked cool

Spend a weekend up in the NC/TN mountains driving for the annual Wookies in the Woods event, always a great time to sneak out for some spirited morning drives on Tail of the Dragon, then chill day drives on the Cherohala Skyway and Foothills Parkway, then grilling and relaxing with the guys in the evenings at Fontana Dam Village! For anyone that has never been, I highly recommend!

Minis on the Dragon is the first week in May, some years they've had as many as 800 Mini/MINIs show up!

Glad to see you out driving your cars, that's what they're for!

A group of my classic Mini friends and I are meeting near San Antonio next week to run the Texas Hill Country. This is our second trip there, it's always a great time!

They are still there, NC HP is up there on bikes and the Blount Co (NC) Sheriff patrols in SUVs

I only "run" the dragon early morning, like in the one photo with my headlights on and the car looks darker....I think those photos were ~8am

The other photo was when we came back from with the Cherohala Skyway or the Foothills parkway, lets just say I got my hand slapped last fall by TN HP last fall and learned my lesson

Haha, that thing was such a science project! It was fun, made cool noises and saying you can make 60psi was fun, but....expensive project for sure

Yep about 1.5 miles before we got pulled over, some guy on a big bike dropped it in the middle of a curve, thankfully some other oncoming traffic warns you so we were just putting along at that point. Beautiful roads down there, I also really loved the Devil's whip (NC route 80) Almost getting a ticket was worth the long drive down

Funny, I'm actually going up that way this weekend, only going to drive the lower portion from Marion up to Mt Mitchell. Excited to go drive that, I've never been!

Not a great garage update, but update in general....

Did the drive up to Mt Mitchell via Devils Whip, can attest, that's a GREAT road! Also, got engaged while up there

In other news, spent the past few weekends polishing up a set of wheels for my silver car. Those in the VW/Audi world will likely recognize these, in the early 2000s these were a very much sought after, they were made by DTM, this model is the Kruez 10 (2pc). I have wanted these since I first got into VW's, have been collecting wheels (I have 6 total) for about 6-7yrs, now was finally the time to get them cleaned up and on a car.

For those curious I used a Zephyr Ultra Shine kit for polishing

Congratulations on the engagement.
Those wheels are looking fresh. I need to do something similar to my wheels but will be sanding down the clear on the machined face and polishing. Looks like a pretty good polishing kit. Might have to give that a try.

Small garage news....had some free time last weekend, got the block painted (also painted some under my shed area). Weather permitting the plan is to paint the full garage this weekend (fiancé is out of town)...It may seem silly, but its amazing how much better the garage looks with just the block painted, this little bit of progress really got me motivated to get the exterior finished.
