Once the lights are up, you'll likely never see the ceiling. You'll be blinded by the light if they're on or unable to see them in the dark. Leave it in primer and save the time/money for another component.

One man's opinion...

Thanks man, that's what I was thinking, but getting some mixed opinions....ugh! lol

Opinions are like a$$holes.....everybody has one. There is only one that counts ......yours to you.

That said, I would paint it, only because this is the last time it will be EASY to do.
Everything looks great, and the lean to/shed area is a great use of space.

Lived in Boiling Springs/Lake Bowen Dam area just before BMW opened .....boy did that area change overnight.

Thanks Chris, and LOL.

Thanks for the kind words, the shed is actually one of my favorite parts thus far, cant wait to get organized out there.

I've been chatting with a couple guys over on vwvortex in a garage thread and it seems that painting the ceiling is becoming the prevailing verdict. I'm likely going to buy nice paint and hope to never touch it again.

wow, small world! I've been here for ~14yrs and its crazy how much its changed in that time, I cant imagine how much different it would be not for you since you know pre-BMW

Most of them/us have migrated over here at this point. (y)

....so bitter sweet, in a strange way I miss the glory days of vortex...

Picked up my 18" paint roller setup last night, will be hitting up SW to get some paint Saturday and get this party started!

It is, but social media, general lack of interest, and stupid arguments are killing TCL and Vortex as a whole. I won't go back at this point.

Agree, I don't have the bandwidth mentally to keep up with TCL, about the only reason I still check in is for the R32 forum, those guys still hang out, while I'm parting my car its a good outlet for some of the stuff I've hoarded throughout the years.

Looks fantastic! And wow I didn’t think the Vortex was still up and running, that’s crazy
Thanks buddy! The vortex is like Keith Richards, you cant kill it!

Been chatting with some folks over there on general theme/schemes, etc....put this very crude rendering together, but got me excited to really start pushing to get it ready for a winter project!

Had a relatively productive weekend, actually about to start some more work today again...but got the ceiling painted and cut in. Decided to get the the couple outlets installed so I could install the lights (I needed a rewarding project, lol).

Lights are on 2 switches, one controls the middle only, and the other controls the outer rows. These photos don't really do the brightness any justice, but I am super happy with how it came out!

All lights off

I love how bright it is, it looks great! .... I have to admit I will never understand people who go with the black ceiling. To each their own.

Hi there. FNG here...that is going to be a great looking space when finished! I apologize if this subject was discussed in a previous page and I missed it, (I looked at the first two pages and skipped to the last two), but what are your plans for passive security? You have the windows and main door? Alarm, a Ring type camera and at least one motion sensor maybe?

Hey Rob - Thanks.

I may do some ring cameras at some point, in general, someone would have to break into my back yard through a locked gate to get into the garage. Not saying its not something to consider, but someone would really want to get in there to just get into the garage.

Made it down to do a little work last night after having dinner with the lady....

Got my additional Snaplight covers installed, moved my excess plywood into the basement and installed my drop cords in the ceiling (those with a keen eye will notice they are slightly different plugs, I must have caught a model change between my two orders :sneaky:)

You may have mentioned this, but what is the plan for the old, brick shop wall?

It’s an ongoing debate/discussion…

The wall on the left will have the metal wainscot on the lower portion, the upper I am thinking of putting a nice dry erase board there

The wall on the right I am thinking I will paint all black, my nice wood top work bench will go over there “kind of” under the window, so I think it being blacked out will creat some depth and make it not stand out

As always, open to suggestions

I don't have any actual suggestions other than tint the windows and make a mirror/focal point of that wall specifically.

I’m going to let some of that walk “play out” since the existing basement will be where the misses and I make the “dog play room/house” so tinting the windows might be an option, but don’t want them blacked out since when you come down the stairs you can look through into the new garage….it’s hard to show that in photos

Thanks, I figured they would be handy with near limitless uses. They are 12awg wire, 50ft length, this will allow me to pull power out into the garage driveway if needed

Got them on Amazon

Productive long weekend, took Friday off to grind the floor in preparation for doing the V-seal Epoxy floor coating....Plan was grind floor from 9am-noon, then do the color coat before returning the grinder....best plans...womp, womp....Took me every bit of 7hrs to grind the floor, really wish the grinder was a dual action/oscillating, it would have make for a better finished product....oh well...

Relocated my space heater to keep the temp right in the new garage

Post grinding, ready for base/color coat

There isn't much difference photo wise in the base color and top coat, so here is a photo after the top coat this morning. Going to let it set/cure this week before I do anything in there. I wont lie, I'm super excited to get the metal roofing/wainscot started next weekend

Went down last night to double check my measurements for the metal roofing/wainscott and to check and see where I want to mount the fire extinguisher cabinets...oh and while down there had to snap a photo of the night lights, love these things!

That floor and lighting looks fantastic! Really stellar choice on the flooring, that's going to make the space feel so clean and classy. I can't wait to see it with the wainscoting and cabinets. That's gonna be killer.

Great work, keep it going!
