The move became nothing more than fill cars, fill rooms and keep moving....result of her having her own house that was 2x the size of mine! lol
Luckily no kids in our future, that problem was fixed a while ago, but we have way too many dogs, luckily they don't have many "things"

No fun garage updates...but I did make a christmas ornament for the wifey....thought it came out pretty ok...
Its about 4" tall for reference....one side is steel brake/fuel line that i sanded, bent, welded, sanded some more, rusted, then matte clear, the other side is all stainless brake tubing that i bent, welded, polished

The wife and I had been passively couch shopping for a while, once she got moved in and settled, we got serious, after
, we braved the crazy world of the mall...hit up a couple places and much to our surprise, really liked the Lovesac brand, and myself the modularity of it....we waited a week or so, they had a 25% off sale, so we went in and made a purchase....showed up about a week later, it sat in boxes in the living room for a week'ish and Saturday it went together....
Honestly took as much time to get everything out of boxes as it did to put the covers on....assembly was a breeze...we went with a 4base/5side configuration

Saturday after the couch project, a buddy brought one of his cars over to swap a rear caliper, so it forced me to move my cars, which has prompted me to knock out some looming projects....the Cayman is moved to fix a loose seat, finally hook up a controller to override the factory sport exhaust control, remove the wheels to get the centers refinished and lips polished...(also note, wives leftovers from the move, but it beats $150/month for a storage unit)

Took the day off yesterday to drive down to outside of ATL to pickup the new front suspension components for my widebody/project car...got full e90 3-series front setup, subframe, spindles, control arms....should be fun to kick that project back into gear

I've seen those Lovesac commercials and like the concept. How do they compare in price to traditional furniture in a comparable configuration?
And I am about to bring a few remaining items from a storage unit into my shop that I have had since my grandma passed. Tired of that $100 monthly.

That is one of the parts that is hard to quantify, but it is also what let me to really want this brand....I viewed this as, if we got a sectional from someplace like pottery barn, (which I was shocked, they do have high end furniture and made up in Hickory, NC, which tells me it is quality) a sectional could be anywhere from $3k to $5k depending on exact configuration, fabric, etc... But then you are married to that piece.
I think our Lovesac was ~$4200-4500 (I'd have to ask the boss), but with this setup, we can reconfigure the theater setup to a sectional in ~1hr, if we ever stain, rip, etc, a cover, we can order one for a base, side, cushion and replace just that one. OR, if we want to change the entire color/fabric, we can order all new covers.
All that being said, the cost difference was negligible for the amount of versatility that you get. I would recommend looking into them, they also have a 60day at home trial, if for any reason you done like the color, fabric, cushion feel, or just ordered one to many pieces, they will take it back. One other small nugget, if you order in store, you always get "in store customer service," but if you order on-line, you always have to deal with CS over the phone.

Wifey had to work late and her daughter was in town, so shuffled cars around and started on my Cayman exhaust project.....Long story short, it has PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust), this allows for a "quiet and loud" mode, but in classic OEM fashion, the functionality from the factory is, its starts in quiet mode, you can push the PSE button for a good cold start, but then when diving it regulates the valves based on speed and something else, then even if you have PSE on, when you shut the car off, it defaults back to quiet for the next startup....I purchased an override controller that has memory, and doesn't do the modulation during driving....
Finalized installing that controller Monday night, tested and it works as advertised, so now onto my project. When the car is in PSE mode it sounds great, but I'd like a little more. My plan is to open up the muffler itself and see if I can re-pipe inside the muffler to make the quiet sound like PSE mode and make the PSE mode closer to straight piped
Pulled my GTi out of the garage, finally got to use my new tool cart, much excite! Took about an hour to get the mufflers out, not too bad

I know form follows function with Porsche, and space it always tight, but hot damn, they have the weirdest shaped exhaust systems of any car out there.
LOL, well said, I do have to admit, it is rather easy to get out of the car, certainly fun for these types of DIY science projects
I was able to get back out too the garage last night to work on what I am calling my PSE+ modification....below is the inner workings of the OEM 987.2 Cayman PSE muffler
My plan is to essentially "move" the perforated pipe that is currently attached to the valve portion of the exhaust over to the position of the small/quiet tube. This will be accomplished by cutting the inlet to the suitcase where the post CAT header pipe turns into a cone, remove the small pipe and replace it with a 2.25" 90° elbow attached to a straight tube with a perforated section that will then merge at the end of the muffler with the new solid pipe that will be attached to the valve side of the exhaust.
I am certainly over simplifying this and under estimating the amount of work, but this is a project I've wanted to do for a while, and when you have the means to weld metal, there isnt too much that cant be repaired.

Finally knocked out a little project in the basement/office, my wives father had a bunch of old records, some very cool, we thought making a display wall for them would be a fun way to keep them around....whipped up this crude little rack setup.....ripped 1x2 in half to get a 1x1, then burnished them to match the general basement theme....anchored the 1x1 to the wall and brad nailed the 1x2 to it....

Here is the section we flared, it was actually a slip fit from the factory, we replicated that, took this 2" OD tube up to maybe 2-1/8" on the slip fit end, then up to 2-1/4" on the end that **** welded to the straight pipe section

Definitely will, I started a thread to document this over on a Planet-9 and it started such a debate that one of the mods set me up in a dev environment so I can do this start to finish and then let people comment....thought that was rather comical lol

Funny, I was thinking about something the other day out in the garage and made me remember, that I had asked a moderator to update my thread title because of you, but that never happened!

Next it was time to start the reassembly process....frustrated at myself, I forgot to take a photo of it in the fixture....BUT, the fixture worked rather well. Knowing I cut the over axle section off with with a 0.045" cut off wheel, allowing for for a little "wiggle" I set the two parts in the fixture, used a piece of TIG filler (0.0625") thick at the top, tacked it, then worked my way around ensuring a similar gap....everything seems very consistent at this point.
Going to leave it tacked like this until I have the other side complete and can test fit everything, once I verify that, I'll burn it in all the way around

Nice job so far, from what I can tell. I've only tried welding on my own exhaust one time (so far) and I made the mistake of not re-test-fitting before completing all the welds. Needless to say, all of that work went into the trash.

As I mentioned, I'm doing this as a DIY over on Planet-9, as part of that I crudely drew these up to add in to that thread....figured I'd post these here also since I put in the time....
Basic outline of how the exhaust system works with the valves....if you look back to earlier photos, you'll see the OEM layout and how the "quiet side" is very restrictive....this should be fun LOL

I've actually been very intrigued by valved exhausts for some time, always wanted to do one on my r32, just never got around to it unfortunately....

I think that is a fair way to say it, I am sure there is plenty of engineering that went into the design to get the desired sound. The shape is essentially the same for PSE and non-PSE, so I would expect that is its main function
I wish I did, I really just hope that my new PSE-OFF sounds like the OEM PSE-ON, then the "Loud" version will just be there in case I want to make some noise.....I really like the Soul Performance Products valved exhaust, but, I dont like it $3k much
Had a productive weekend with a side of appliance drama....Apparently my ~17yr old Maytag dryer dried its last garment Thursday night.....The wife came down Friday to change laundry and no go....so did some trouble shooting Saturday morning and it seemed that I wasn't going to bring it back to life....womp womp
Side story, we are currently planning our next house project, which is a mud room/pantry on the side of the house/kitchen to bring the wash room upstairs and to have a little extra kitchen/cleaning storage. Knowing that, I didn't want to have to make the decision or the investment right now in new washer/dryer, plus having a washer/dryer in the basement long term will be nice for shop towels, dog feet towels,etc.....so off to craigslist we go....It must have been my lucky day b/c within 10min so searching, emailing 3 people, the first guy to respond had time to show me the washer he was advertising, honestly felt bad when I got there, but he was a developer and getting rid of leftovers, so for $190, I have a new dryer lol

That record storage looks sweet, simple but effective. I think that's going to look great with all the records on there. Add a pop of color and some history to the wall. The whitewashed brick is a great backdrop for that too.
That exhaust mod is awesome. Smart thinking and it really makes the car sound more aggressive. Very cool unique mod that you can say you did on your own, which is always pretty fun. I bet that makes it a lot more fun to drive, if a little more difficult to keep off of the hoon pedal.

That exhaust mod is awesome. Smart thinking and it really makes the car sound more aggressive. Very cool unique mod that you can say you did on your own, which is always pretty fun. I bet that makes it a lot more fun to drive, if a little more difficult to keep off of the hoon pedal.
