My missing tool (venting)

So a little background on my obsession, I mean tool ownership. My tool chest is inside my house, not in my garage. I never, never loan tools. My girl knows you don't touch my tools without asking. Everything is thoroughly cleaned and oiled after rough use. Needless to say I love my tools.

So a couple of weeks back we got some new shelving in at work. Small office so we cover all our 'facilities' needs in house. So end of one day I unpack the shelves and go over what I'll need for assembly. Nothing major, couple wrenches and a nut driver or two.

I get everything together and bring my little tool bag with me to work the next day. So knowing I would need a couple different size nut drivers, I decided to use my Wiha Drive-Loc IV handle, 1/4 Socket Holder Blade and the various sockets.

Get everything assembled in no time flat. Pack all my tools back into my bag and take the bag back to my car. Finish the rest of the day, got out to dinner, then head home. Take my tool bag out of the car and go inside to unload.

Wrenches, check
Sockets, check
Drive-Loc handle, check
1/4" Socket Holder Blade, no check

OK, don't panic. Check the bag again, not there. Check the car, not there. OK, back to work, not there. **** OK, back to the restaurant, not there. Searched the parking lot with a flashlight at my office and the restaurant. No where to be found.

I was so bummed out. I got a lot of use out of that blade. That and the 1/4" Bit Holder Blade were the ones I used the most. But it happens and it's just one blade, how much could it cost.

Check Wiha's website, not listed, odd. OK, Amazon, nothing. Dig, dig, dig, discontinued in 2008, OK now panic. Why would they, how could they?

Don't what I expect to come of this, just needed some place to vent. I know there are a lot of worse things that can happen, but when you lose one of you favorite tools it *****.

I can definitely feel your pain. It's compounded when it's a tool or tool set that is no longer in production, or maybe worse when it's one piece out of a set that is no longer produced.

Tell me about I had a small hand held torch laid it down and now I can not find it. It drives me crazy, how does someone misplace a BernzOmatic torch in the first place?:dunno:

this is why I always keep them attached to a gas cylinder, even if it is empty! :lol_hitti

In a previous life I was a plumber. I walked out one day to find my entire contents of 3 lock boxes gone and 2 bundles of 3/4" copper. Copper was a no brainer, undo straps and take it. Lock boxes took some time but they got it all. Hole Hawgs, recips, bits, torches, copper fittings etc. you name it I had it.

That was almost 7 years ago, to this day I have maybe half back and I work for a major supply company and get discounts, money goes other places now. (KIDS:wtf:)

I got back 12k from insurance company, I had to use that money to reinvest into the company because the economy tanked. Life is much better now though!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

hmmm, these tool deals actually DO look pretty darn good, especially if there is some purchase level at which we get free shipping :bounce:

Not going to hi-jack a thread but possibilities are endless :bounce:

This thread got me thinking of the "good old days" going to start a new thread!
