Hey guys, Happy Holidays. I have a 30x30 garage with 19ft ceiling. I am going to be installing the Hot dawg heater off the wall (company makes mounting brackets) and I do not want vent through the roof. I rather not have any holes in my roof and I just had it spray foamed. Question to you guys is who sells a quality Horizontal vent kit? by looking at the pic I was planning to install it above the window, angled towards the garage door. Would you install it in a different place??

thanks!!!
Ralph

Cat III vent pipe is what you need. You'll want to download the manual for the heater as they will have restrictions on where the vent can be placed relative to other building features (windows, corners, soffits, air intakes, etc). Got mine from Menards if you have one nearby.

Unfortunately there may be some conflicts between the heater manufacturer manual and the cat III pipe manufacturers installation, in terms of minimum lengths, pitch of vent, etc. Just went through this is wall venting a Mr. Heater 50K unit. So far am happy with the outcome though, heated garage is awesome!

From the install manual category 3 stainless galvanized would rust out from the flue gas because it's acidic. Read A2

Thanks guys. I prefer not to have a hole in my roof and I am sgoing to installing metal roof panels on the ceiling down the road so I do not want to go near those rafters. Would you guys install before the window?between the windows?

That’s why I suggested reading the install manual. It may partially dictate where you install it. From the picture above the window pointing at the garage door makes sense but you’ll likely need to stay 48” from any building openings

Well, if you hang it, it would be well above the windows. I would not put it that low, it would be in the way.

But that's me. I would install the unit above the window, and Vent straight out the back

Eric, I would love to do that but not sure if it is possible due to it being closes to soffit.

Manual says to keep 6" away. or you can just come out past the soffit with the cap.

I definitly can get it 6in or possibly a tad more. If I am understanding this right, the pitch will be towards the outside, not towards the unit. I would love to this had a cap..... also, am I going to single wall or double wall piping?

thanks for your help!!

From the appliance out down 1/4 slope for modine.

I would do double wall pipe. you have to do double wall through a penetration anyway. then have your wall thimble.

Read your installation instructions carefully....

For horizontal, you need Cat 3 stainless.

Good prices and service from these guys

Post #21 in this thread shows some pics of my Modine HD60 install, which is very similar and the instructions clearly spelled out Cat 3 stainless duct for a horizontal flu.

The good news for me was that installations <4' horizontal run allowed you to pitch down so condensation drains out the pipe to the vent cap, and thus a drain line with a water trap was not required.

Manica Mat. Nice garage and thanks for the link. Looks like they only sell single wall pipes?? I will call them tomorrow, I am worried that I would need a 15 degree or 30 degree elbow so waiting to mount unit first to see what I need.
