Hello everyone, been lurking for a while and I have to say there are some very impressive garages on this forum. So, I got inspired and was itching to do my new garage (just moved a few months ago). It’s a small 2 car garage so I really have to utilize all the real estate in this tight space. Made some shelving, and re-did the electrical, lighting and floor, then slap some new paint on and with a few good finds from Craig’s List, it’s now presentable and function quite well for me..

Got this all metal trash can on CL for $15! Not too bad, just had to put some paint on.

I’m not sure what this is originally for, but it’s made out of metal and unique. Could be a nice little med cabinet or something. $12 from CL.

Also found this tall metal storage closet from CL for $35, it was worth the 45 min drive I think. Had to clean out the rust and re-paint.

Build this rolling closet for my motorcycle gear, it also acts as a “rolling gate” to cover my AC and water heater area. Black metal book shelf also a CL find for $25.

Few wall decorations I got as gifts. Black wall-hang glass display case’s another find from CL, $45.

Workbench I made with leftover materials from work.

A Yammy xs650 chop on lift that I’m just starting to work on.

That’s all folks, not the most fancy “big-bucks” garage but it’s my garage and I’m loving it.

Very, very impressive makeover!! Nice bunch of bikes, too.
That black & glass "display case" is an old Ikea CD cabinet. I have a couple of them that I bought to use exactly the way you have! They work great. At $45 you got a decent deal, I think they were just over $100 new.

This is one of my fave makeovers!! What a transformation. Of course the pics make it look like a million bucks - but it's the use of great finds that made it photo-worthy!! I wish I lived in a bigger city to find more CL bargains - especially like the metal closet and medicine cab. Your tools are extremely well orgnaized!!! thanks for posting.

The only part I'm a little iffy on is putting an auto-starting electrical set up (the fridge) right next to two potential natural gas leaks (the water heater and the furnace). But there might not be any way around that.

What about the CONSTANT ignition sources - the pilot lights?? If there's a gas leak (in anyones home), the pilots would ignite it WAY before the fridge would - wouldn't it?? I thought that was why they added the suphur (rotten egg) smell - to alert you to a gas leak, well before the concentration gets high enough to ignite....

So what are you doing to the Yamaha project?

Re-build engine, service carb, going to use weld-on hardtail (going to get this done by Arcorechoppers, I want it TIG welded), sporty frontend, SR500 tank, spoke wheels, suicide shift, pretty much your typical bobber look.

Nice garage on a budget, Although there's no way I could keep it that clean. I've always thought watching those auto shows on tv there's no way to realistically keep a shop that clean. Hell there's been so many oil spills on my floor, paint would never stick in a million years. lol

Again thanks guys for the compliments. Those pics are pretty much taken right after the garage is done. Three weeks into it, I think it’s already getting messy. Parts scatter around everywhere, tools not put back after usage, and sand/polish dusts covering the floor…. But that’s what it is all about right?

Yeah, I do like the photos my brother took, hopefully I can have him find time to come over for a few more shots.

That is a great setup!! I am new to this, about to start painting my garage in the next few days. What type of paint are you using semi-gloss, flat? Also what is the name of the color and brand of paint. l be using primer of course since I will be painting over plywood sheeting. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I used Vaspar paint from Lowes, I think the color name was either "Iron City" or "City Storm", and it was egg shell finish. If I have to do it again, I'd go w/ something more glossy for easier clean up. Also the Vaspar paint is pretty solid BUT it gets gooy fast, I had to keep on stir it. Primer + 2 coats and you should be good.
For plywood, yes primer definitely needed and maybe sand off the rough spots with a palm sander will give you a smoother finish (also easier to paint). Good luck
