Greetings form Ormond Beach, Florida, which calls itself "The Birthplace of Speed". The town is next to Daytona Beach which calls itself "The World Center of Racing". Of course Daytona and NASCAR are down the road and are irritated to have people learn that land speed records were set on Ormond Beach for 50 years before Daytona Speedway was built. All kinds of guys like Olds, Marriott, and Firestone used to be here. Maybe these names sound familiar.
Anyway, I retired last year from going to sea for 30 years as an engineer (union) on US flag ships for the companies United States Lines, Lykes Bros. Steamship, Waterman Steamship, Amoco, Keystone Shipping, Sea-Land, Trinadad Corp., Maersk-Sealand, Marine Transport lines, Apex Marine, Liberty Maritime, Maritime Overseas Corp., amd Puerto Rican Marine. I was unemployeed 25 times in 30 years but got my pension in.
I was a steam apprentice for 3 1/2 years and got my license for steam and diesel ships of unlimited horsepower. I worked mostly North Atlantic, North Sea, and the Med. usually in the winter months. I have been on bar stools in 33 countries from Viet Nam to Canada to Malta and Diego Garcia.
I enjoy home improvement projects like electrical and plumbing. I'm not at all intimidated by refrigeration or welding. Repairman that come to my house cannot ******** me. Hurricane Charlie left me a destroyed house for 2 years after the 2004 storm brought tornados through.
I have a lot to learn about woodworking and rounter work. I pay roofers to do that kind of work.I am restoring 50 year old Mercury outboards, and I am a member of the Antique Outboard Motor Club Inc - Florida Chapter. I have been a member of the Sportscar Club of America and go to all the road racing events I can at Daytona International Speedway. My wife and I ballroom dance and figure skate.
I drink one cold beer every day at 5.
