I finally managed to clutter up our garage enough that the wife gave me approval to build a shop. Something about her wanting to actually be able to park her car in the garage... scraping snow off her windshield... hail storms... who knows... as soon as 'a shop' was suggested I was on board!
The plan: A 30'x60' building 12' walls 5:12 pitch roof. Two 10' garage doors, two walk in doors, and 9 windows.
I found a well known builder that I liked. We agreed on a price and work was set to start Late December/Early January. It was going to be a 2 week build. Well... things don't always go as planned. We had the strangest weather that I can remember. We went from record drought (like the lakes were dry) to record flood (lakes overflowing) in about two weeks. Overall I think we had 4 weeks of pretty much rain every day. So... here we are in JUNE and we are basically just getting started again.
Here is the back yard. Kind of a mess right now but hey... it is a construction zone. I built a temporary solar panel/shed over the pool stuff two years ago. It gets moved out of the way and the shop is going to be built over the top of it. The shed will get tore down & the panels will be put on the roof of the new shop. I was not really sold on putting the pool pump stuff inside the shop but I'm tired of it freezing and being an overall PITA in the winter. I'm going to build a short wall (maybe a foot tall) around the pool stuff so a leak will not flood the shop. There is also a big floor drain right beside it. Should be ok....
And now we wait...... Strange winter weather this year has put the concrete guy way behind so in the meantime I have some dirt brought in to level up the site. At least this way it will have time to settle and I can pack it really good.
The concrete guys finally schedule a pour. They are going to form & pour all in one day. They get to the house early and then....
And it does not let up for over a week.
I know.. the pool looks gross. Try keeping a pool clean when you have 10 truckloads of sand dumped right beside it during a wind storm and you live on a big hill
It finally dries up and they are back to work.
The slab gets poured just in time for more rain.... weeks of more rain.
So here is where we were as of yesterday.
