Well I had been deliberating for some time about purchasing a new generator. My old one was a 1750 what with a 4 HP Tecumseh. Anyway it is old noisy and burns lots of gas.
So after a trip to Harbor Freight I bought home the 4000/3500 generator. After opening the box and not finding any owners manual but I did manage to find the tool kit.As was mentioned I replaced the stock spark plug with an NGK, filled the engine with new 10/30 oil. I tore the box apart looking for the owners manual but could not find one.
So after putting about 2 gallons of gas in the tank turning on the gas valve turning the switch to on 3 pulls later it was running. Nice quiet and smooth.Anyway I let it run and went inside to answer a phone call.I could smell something burning. At first I thought it was paint burning on the exhaust.Wrong.It seems as if someone that packaged this thing was going to have a laugh. My owners manual was wedged in between the exhaust pipe and the muffler.Anyway it was mildly singed but readable. Is this a bad omen?I ran it for about an hour adding a small load for the break in period. Seems to be functioning fine. Just thought I would pass this along. Ken

My brother bought a predator generator although I don’t remember which size, I will say HF seems to have done a good job with them. He uses his to run his toyhauler since the onan can’t seem to do it.

I got one and tested it, by, putting a tiny bit of gas in it where is it started on the first pull.

I want to started a couple months later to test it out some more, and it would not start at all.

I was pretty pissed but then I got pissed at myself and I looked in the tank and saw that it was almost completely dry.

Put in some gas in again and started on the first pull.

I was pretty surprised how quiet it runs.

Seems to run good, as long as it has gas in it.

I got really lucky on a store return 3500W Predator inverter genset. They sell typically for $599-699 depending on the sale, but the return I got was one of multiple that came back from one buyer whom bought a ton of stuff and returned it- looked to be possibly a scam that got busted in trying to return stuff they bought on sale but for full price returns.

In the end, I got it for $125, and I cannot begin to say how pleased I am with the unit's performance.

:bounce: You, sir, are my kind of smart ***!

Here's how it would have gone in my house:

Me: Damn generator almost caught on fire honey, and here's the funny part...

Wife: Did you read the manual 1st?

Me: the manual was wedged in between the frame and the exhaust!!

Wife: SO I take it you didn't read the manual 1st!
